Oneworld Explorer: Map and Question
 

Fellow Flyertalkers,

After taking a couple of DONE4s in 2003 (ex-CAI) and 2005 (ex-IST, indeed I think I was the first to do this routing after playing FT fare roulette) I fell into routine business travel and haven't had the chance to play the RTW game. Now my parents have taken retirement and are keen to do lots of travelling whilst they're still fit and able - and, being in their early 60s, it's a great time to do it.

I've been explaining the process to them but can't find a simple map that shows the OWE zones. Yes, there are the lists on the website and the vague maps showing routings, but nothing as good as I remember from the BA fare rules. So I've pulled out this map from my files - it's from 2005 - and want to know if anyone can point me to something better? If not, I'll append this to the sticky. I recognise that the Maghreb (North Africa) now falls into Europe but can't spot any other discrepancies.

Also, am I right in thinking that a D class ticket on AA two class (Y,F) flights now gets shunted down into L class rather than upgraded to A class?

Thanks for your help - I'm looking forward to kicking the old 'uns out of the house for a few months and sending them on a wonderful trip!

D-class RTW tickets still book into A on AA domestic (US) 2-class flights.

I don't know if there's an updated map; but here's what the rules say: Only "marginal" destination is IPC/Easter Island, which is considered S. America/TC1.

Yep, thanks, that was the document I was working to (at least it's publicly available these days). It's a shame there's no map in there; this is the only 'up to date' one that I could find, but it's still extremely vague.

I'm a sometime geography graduate so if we can't source a new map between us, I'm going to have to update the old one by hand!

Before they got the oneworld explorer booking tool active online, they used to have a RTW planning option in the downloadable timetable. This section would generate a map with colour coded regions with the planned routing (and then gave the option of emailing it to a member airline/travel agent for booking).

It appears Russia/CIS has changed from Asia to Europe since then.

This rule is present on both the xONEx and xGLOBx rule sheets.

Right then, from my understanding of the OWE rules I think that this map represents the description of continents in 2010. Please let me know if there's something incorrect (it's not 100% geographically accurate). Click through for a bigger version.

I agree quoted post has a more accurate map reference. The map you refer to in post 3 has Bali in Southwest Pacific, for example, and it's actually included in Asia.
