LONE5 via tokyo adds extra segment
I'm trying to route from SYD-Tokyo-HNL. SYD-NRT and HND-HNL - is there any way to avoid this being considered 3 segments due to the transfer from NRT-HND?

Do any OW carriers fly NRT-HNL?
|
It seems you created an unexisted problem by misunderstanding the flight routings.
Currently, the only international destinations from Tokyo Haneda (HND) are HKG, SHA and GMP, hence there are no HND-HNL flights at the moment. From 31Oct10, the new runway and new international terminal in Haneda begin to operate, HND-HNL along with many new international routes would also begin on the same date. Back to your latest question, there are 3 daily flights on the NRT<->HNL route operated by JAL subsidiary JALways, JO71/72, JO73/74, JO75/76. |
Ah, I'm looking at flights in March/April next year so they've already moved the flights to go from HND. Bother

Would it be possible to do SYD-HNL-......-NRT-SYD instead? Basically do SYD-HNL on QF first and move onto North America, and leave NRT towards the end of your trip?

AKL-SYD-NRT // HND-HNL-DFW-SEA // JFK-CUN-MEX-LIM-IPC-SCL-GIG-LHR-HKG-AKL If I can avoid the land segment in Tokyo, it would give me another leg to add somewhere. I also see that no OW carriers fly HNL-SEA or somewhere near there - seems like they all fly to LAX or DFW then connecting flight on to SEA :( |
In that case, how about routing via a city that will fly into HND instead?
Sorry for the press release being in Japanese, but JAL will also be flying to/from the following cities out of HND starting 31Oct2010: BKK, SIN, TPE in addition to HNL, SFO, and CDG. My preference would be SYD-SIN-HND just so as to get the experience of riding the big A380 between SYD-SIN. :D So you could do AKL-SYD-(BKK, SIN, TPE)-HND-HNL....-AKL; you get an extra segment squeezed in at SE Asia, and avoiding wasting the extra land segment NRT//HND You can also avoid the SEA // JFK land segment by opting to use the alternate Canadian airport YVR instead. ..HNL-DFW-YVR-JFK-CUN.. SEA can be easily reached rather easily by rental car or via Amtrak Cascades rail out of Vancouver. CX flies YVR-JFK so you'll save another "land" segment there as well. |

OP can travel from SYD via another city to reach HND by following route: SYD-HKG-HND (CX/QF + CX/JL) SYD-SIN-HND (BA/QF + JL) SYD-BKK-HND (BA/QF + JL) Alternatively, skipping the AKL-SYD segment by flying directly out of AKL, AKL-HKG-HND (CX + CX) |

Are you sure? JAL is beginning one daily flight on HND-HNL, but there are also keeping NRT-HNL. How can one daily HND flight replaces the current 3 daily flights out of NRT.

The overland portion from YVR or SEA (depending on which route we go with) to JFK is for overland travel around US & Canada - thinking about hiring a rental car / buying a cheap car and doing a road trip for a couple of months.

Hmmm. When I used the booking tool it only showed HND-HNL. And its only showing a single flight each day in the OneWorld booking tool.

NRT Tokyo Narita JP [RJAA] |
Thanks for your help folks. Still not sure why the OW tool doesn't show the NRT-HNL flights that DownUnderFlyer posted about above.
We're now deciding on 2 different options, either include: * Hawaii AKL-HKG-HND-HNL-DFW-SEA or * Ayers Rock, Australia AKL-SYD-AYQ-SYD-NRT-YVR Then we will go overland from SEA or YVR around USA/Canada before continuing from JFK-CUN-MEX-LIM-IPC-SCL-GIG-LHR-DEM-HKG (<24hr transit to meet the rules)-AKL If it was you, which option would you go with? Hawaii or Ayers Rock? |
Assuming all of your other destinations are a must (meaning you can't do both Uluru and Hawaii) I would go for Hawaii. In the setting of your trip Uluru would feel to be very much out of context and I think Hawaii would be a better fit. Leave the Red Centre for a dedicated Australia trip
Since this is your honeymoon, I would strongly advise to ask for all wedding gifts to be in the form of cash and to then upgrade the LONE5 to a DONE5. Or when starting at a cheaper place than AKL, a DONE4. |
