Check in – how far?

I have the following string of flights coming up:
HEL-LHR AY831 0800-0910 SAT14AUG
LHR-DXB BA107 1250-2250 SAT14AUG
DXB-LHR BA106 0145-0620 SUN15AUG
LHR-HKG QF030 1220-0710+1 SUN15AUG
HKG-NRT CX504 0910-1435 MON16AUG
[ticket change]
NRT-SIN JL711 1755-0010+1 MON16AUG
SIN-PER QF072 0905-1410 TUE17AUG
PER-MEL QF776 1820-2345 TUE17AUG

How many of the flights will they be able to check me in for? I’ll have 1 bag with me.
I have a terminal change in LHR (T3-T5, then back again), I was thinking that I could put my bag in storage at T3 for the day and collecting it when I get back to T3 22 hours later.

I hope your bag is a carry-on. The chances of a checked bag making that itinerary unscathed is low.

At HEL you will probably only be able to check in as far as DBX or perhaps LHR the second time. QF flight to HKG will not be open for check in.

Normally check-in limited to four segments (assuming interline agreements) and I think no more than 48hrs. Agree storing at LHR would be smart, then maybe check LHR-SIN (where you have 9hrs in case things have missed) and then the rest.

That said if at all possible I would be carry-on only

Those 8 sectors are at the end of a combined DONE3/DAS13. I’ll be away for 5 weeks. If I only had a carry on, I wouldn’t have mentioned having a bag at all. I’ll have a backpack, a laptop bag and a checked bag.

I thought that there would be little point in having BA load a bag onto a plane, take it off once it lands, only to put it back on the same plane 2 hours later. So minimise the chances of BA losing it, by not letting BA have it at all.

Any chances of getting Qantas to just keep it on QF30 though to Melbourne and I could just pick it up from baggage services when I get there the next day?

I guess the best idea would be:
- get AY to check the bag through to LHR
- pass through UK immigration to get landside
- put bag into storage in T3, transfer to T5 via train
- fly LHR-DXB-LHR
- transfer to T3, pick up bag
- check in with QF to NRT or SIN
- collect bag and recheck though to MEL
Would I have to go through immigration at either NRT or SIN to collect the bag, or just hand over the bag receipt at a transfer desk?

go through immigration
