Cross City Connections/xASnn help

On Oneworld tickets, do connections between airports in the same city (eg NRT-HND or LGA-JFK) count as an extra ground sector?

I’m trying to work out a xAS13 ticket, but just noticed that I might have a problem with rule 8Ai (http://www.oneworld.com/content/libr...rule_sheet.pdf). So I think I need to swap my stops around so I don’t stop in Tokyo “twice”.

Plan currently is:
CBR-SYD THU15JUL
SYD-NRT THU15JUL
HND-ITM MON19JUL
ITM-NRT THU22JUL [connecting to a xONE3]
NRT-SIN MON16AUG [connecting from xONE3]
SIN-PER TUE17AUG
PER-MEL TUE17AUG

If NRT-HND counts as one of the 8 sectors, and I need to swap Osaka [or Nagoya if Osaka pushes the mileage to far] and Tokyo, then I’m either going to go over the sector limit with and extra HND-NRT or spend half a day sitting at NRT waiting for an afternoon JL flight after QF21 arrives in the morning.

Yes surface segments count as a sector.

AFAIK JL has flights between NRT & KIX you may be able to use (with disadvantage of extra travel time to & from the airports).

Maybe I'm dense but isn't the problem that you're stopping over twice in TYO - NRT on 15 July and NRT again on 22 July? 8 A (i) says "Only one stopover permitted at any point."

That's why I got a bit worried this morning when I was going over the xASnn rules again before going down to Qantas Travel.

I swapped the stops in Tokyo and Osaka around.
CBR-SYD-NRT/HND-ITM[stop]-NRT[stop]/DONE3/-SIN-PER-MEL

The person I spoke to at Qantas said he didn't think the NRT-HND would count as a sector because the rule says only 8 flight sectors allowed, but since I didn't have enough mileage for another sector anyway...
The routing worked out at 12,983 miles.

When I checked the booking classes all the CBR-SYD flights had D zeroed out, but a J seat was opened in about 20 seconds while booking.

But if D is not available, just book into L on the Crash8 CBR-SYD. Or just start in SYD and save the mileage at the cost of a cheap CBR-SYD flight.

And, if transferring between HND and NRT, avoid the bus and take the train. The bus I endured stopped the air con as a few complained it was too cold and then there was no air at all for the next 90 minutes .

I went to Qantas Travel today mainly to check the mileage and to get a quote with the taxes. Once I confirmed the prices for both L and D, I said I had to check a few things and I'd come back, likely next week. I was able to get online at the local libary and check what I needed to, so I went back an hour later.
When I looked at CBR-SYD on seat counter, D was zeroed out on all flights (and the next day also). L was wide open on most flights.
When I got back to QF Travel, I mentioned that D didn't appear to be open on that flight, he told me not to worry about it and he'd get them to open one.
The travel agent disappeared into the back room with my QFF card where I assume he called QF yield management. When he came back out, the D seat was cleared. I wouldn't have minded if I got an L seat, it's only a 45min flight after all, but he said they would open the seat, so he went and asked.

I already have to pay for a few extra flights during my trip, if I can get an extra sector for 'free' (ie, wouldn't effect the xAS13 cost one way or the other), I'd prefer that. Though if the mileage had been over the limit, CBR-SYD was the first one on the chopping block.

Didn't plan to. I've been to both HND and NRT before, though never as a connection. I've always gotten the train to/from both airports.
It looks like I'll miss the new, quicker Narita Sky Access (it's set to open the day after my NRT-HND connection). I'd just get the Narita Express to Shinagawa and change to the Keikyu Line to Haneda. I have 4 hours between QF21 arriving in NRT and JL113 departing HND.
