MAD-LIM in C Iberia or Lan?
MAD-LIM in C Iberia or Lan?
|
Having flown both, i prefer LAN. Iberia's a struggling legacy carrier. LAN is an upstart who is trying hard to do their best. Also LAN's seats are nicer and the planes they use for long haul are newer / more recently updated.
|
Another vote for LAN. I've had many great flights with them, along with a few average ones. With Iberia, I've had many average ones and a few poor ones.

another "go for LAN" - voice :-)

Lan lan lan lan lan

LAN^
Seats are better in LAN Wine is better in LAN LAN planes are newer IB...few bad experiences, especially lost luggage (8/10 flights lost luggage flying C MAD-SCL). |
Another vote for LAN.
IB is okay but LAN service in J was better. One thing about LAN that I do not like, their coffee is awful.:td: |
IMHO and limited experience:
- Coffee way better on IB - Food/wine better on LAN - Service good on both - Do not agree about seats - I think the seats on IB are significantly wider than those on LAN. I found seat comfort to be good on IB. I'm a skinny guy, but I saw some not-so-skinny folks having issues with the LAN seats. |

Having flown both LAN and Iberia in international J recently, I would rate them as very similar, and both very good.
However, I was very disappointed in the service on a recent LAN Ecuador flight, GYE-MAD. While the hard product (767) was the same as LAN, the meal service was not. About 35 minutes after take-off, an F/A came down the aisle with a cart, asked me my choice of main course, and put a small tray in front of me with salad, main course and dessert, just like in Y except that the dishes were china, not plastic! There was no pre-dinner drink service. There was no bread plate, so she perched a roll on top of the salt/pepper. The white wine was not chilled. (But the red I chose was a very good Malbec.) The lamb main course was tough, and served with zucchini but no starch (rice or potato). I also had to wait for wine refills (and used the call button once), even though there were only two pax in J! There were no pillows. When I later expressed my disappointment to the Purser, she explained that LAN has four classes of service: Economy, Premium Economy, Business, and Premium Business. She said that LAN Ecuador doesn't have Premium Business; only "ordinary" Business which has Premium Economy meal service. That's the first time I have heard that, and it certainly is not made clear on the LAN website as it lists Lan Ecuador flights as Premium Business. Anybody else come across this? And does this also apply to Lan Peru (OP asked about MAD-LIM) and Lan Argentina? If I had known this, I would definitely have taken the Iberia flight (no difference in price as it was part of an AONE4). Happy Travels. |
Another vote for LAN, however I wouldn't call them an "upstart" carrier. They were founded more than 80 years ago.
LAN is great in the air. However they are absolutely terrible on the ground. If you have any issues which need to be dealt with before or after the flight then LA is very difficult. |
LAN all the way
prefer LAN over IB just did both on MAD-LIM and the service and the plane and overall flight was much better on LAN... only caveat they did not have any amenity kits on the LAN flight the purser said they had run out of them... But otherwise was excellent agree with the comment LAN hard to deal on the ground but try to deal with IB :(

Now that both airlines have new products, which one is better for single traveler? Iberia has better seats? What about the food and ife?
