3 OW award trips, we need help with which miles to use on which trip
Hello OW forum. My wife, 10 year old son, and I are planning on three OW trips in the near future, but I am not sure which miles to use for which trip and am looking for a little assistance.
All trips will originate from our home airport MCI Here is a list of the miles we have: We have 220,00 BA miles in a household account. I have 326,00 miles in my AA account. My wife has 100,000 miles in her AA account. So, from those three different accounts, we are looking to take three seperate trips. The first trip would be MCI-CUZ Second MCI-BKK and third MCI-CNS All three trips will be in economy. We are like to get some feedback from the FT community on how to best allocate these miles to accomplish the three trips. Thanks in advance, Jeffrey |
Do these have to be separate trips or can you combine them in a 1W award? For example, while CUZ is more stand-alone, BKK and CNS are (relatively) in the same part of the world as easily linked via HKG.

AKTCHI, that is a great idea....the only problem is I have an EX to deal with. So getting her to go along with the three seperate trips was hard enough, there is no way she would let me take him for as long as I would need to make both BKK and CNS trips into one. I would LOVE to do that tho! It looks like each trip is going to be around 10 to 12 days.

travelinterpreters, you will not get very good value from your BA miles on any of the three itineraries. BA charges more miles for redemptions that involve flying more than one BA partner. If you could get you and your family from MCI to ORD somehow, you could use the BA miles to fly JL ORD to BKK (via Tokyo). I would use the AA miles for the MCI-CNS and MCI-CUZ trips. Don't forget about the free North American gateway stopover that AA permits on international awards, and the free stopovers that BA permits on award travel. |
Thanks guv1976, that is what I was hoping to hear! We can usually get a cheapo flight to ord for around $100. It makes so much sense now that you say it!

If you should find yourself a little short of AA miles for the CNS and CUZ trips (for three people, I think you will need a total of between 345,000 and 375,000 AAdvantage miles depending on when you are going to South America), you can pick up some miles pretty easily if you can park some cash in a BankDirect mileage checking account. |
