Change flight date to open

Couldn't find the answer in search, my next LONE4 segment is scheduled for Mar 1 SIN-PER on QF I need to change this to an open date sometime in Apr.

Can I do this online or is it necessary to go to an airport?

The RTW was booked through AA but I assume since QF is the carrier I should contact them. The rest of the flights are open this is the last one with a date.

A phone call to AA should be the easiest way since they will have all info on hand. They should just make the change and send the info on to QF. You could also phone QF and request the change but they might refer you to AA if their agent can't see the reservation.

In any case, you shouldn't need to make it "open" - you could just choose any date and then when you know exactly what you want - then ring again and get the desired flight / date.

Just phone AA and move it , say, to a date in May and then when you know which date in may you want, just bring it forward. I wouldn't call QF since they may well charge you a service fee for doing it over the phone with them

Are open dates even possible on e-tickets? I thought that was one of the complications involved in the conversion from paper.

About CX-issued XONEX tickets, a CX ticketing agent said to me only CX segments can be OPENed on e-tickets.
It was two years ago.

Thanks for the replies, will call AA & change date to some time in May.

It is a handwritten ticket not an e ticket as it was issued at YYZ where the computer refused to print it so after 3 hrs of trying they gave up & wrote it out.

It varies by carrier. For AA 001 e-tickets, OPEN segments are allowed. Most reps aren't familiar with them, though, but tariff should be able to help them.

Incidentally, eons ago I looked into open segments and concluded that it's best to have tickets with bogus closed dates far away; I think it had to do with what happens if the airline withdraws from the market, but I can't really remember exactly.

If it is an ATW ticket, just phone the ATW desk in the US

Thats probably because they need to verify the start date of the ticket - ie the first flight - so you are not going past the 1 year ticket validity from first flight. In which case, I'm surprised they didn't ask for evidence of date of first flight (eg BPs).

Note that OW does not revolve around you and they OW carriers generally don't know what each other are doing.

As I am currently in Thailand I got the # of the local office from AA's website & after faxing a copy of the paper ticket the very helpful person I talked to changed the flight (3rd on my RTW) to May 1 just have to change it again when I know the date I wish to fly.

Am very happy with the service from AA both at Pearson (YYZ) where I originally booked the ticket + here in Thailand.

Thanks all for the advise.
