Cannes on OneWorld?
 

Hi

Just found out I have a conference to attend in Cannes (CEQ) later this month. (Tough break I know!)

Does anyone have suggestions on the best way to get there on OW travelling from Australia?

CEQ doesn't show on the OW planner, maybe I need to go into Nice or via Paris?

SYD-xLHR-NCE; there are 3 or 4 daily LHR-NCE flights. Then taxi or hire car to Cannes. Poor devil.

You can fly in to Nice (on BA) and take either a bus or taxi to Cannes.

Huh! To my own surprise, SYD-JFK-BCN-NCE is only 14k mi versus 11k mi for SYD-LHR-NCE!

NCE is about a 20 km drive from Cannes, once you've worked out the correct exit to take amongst all the ramps and roundabouts as you leave the airport, it's an easy freeway ride away. Make sure to have coins or your credit card with you for the toll booth.

AFAIK CEQ doesn't have any scheduled commercial flights. You could be really decadent and get a helicopter transfer from NCE - http://www.easy-incentive.eu/events/...elicopter.html

I go there frequently and one option for you would be to SYD to JFK (or MIA) to CDG and then take the TGV from CDG direct to Cannes which is a couple of hours and quite pleasant to train it. Otherwise, as everyone noted, you're stuck connecting through LHR (sigh) and with the winter weather you're probably dealing with bussing between terminals and then hanging for the flight to NCE, and then you have to train it (very easy and cheap) or cab it to Cannes. I wouldn't rent a car, parking is pricey and a pain in Cannes....unless you can expense it. Then who cares I guess. Trois Portes is better food than the usual tourist traps...if you're looking for food too.

Going via the US to get to CDG would be worse than going via LHR. For the OP, the better options would be BNE-HKG-CDG on Cathay, or BNE-SIN-CDG on the QF codeshare with AF.

Not sure I understand why the TGV is the better choice. It takes a few minutes under 6 hours to get from CDG to Cannes on the TGV (and that is the direct train option which is not that frequent) which is a hell of a long time. Even the indirect options are few and far between are you are looking around 7 hours.

I travel regularly to that same region in France from the UK and as much as I would prefer to take the train, it simply takes too long making the plane out of either LHR or LGW always the better option. NCE despite a requisite transfer at LHR, CGD, AMS, FRA or any other Euro hub is always going to be the better option.

Personal choice - LHR can easily burn three to four hours with delays, waiting, terminal changes etc. I'd rather swipe my passport, walk to the TGV terminal and settle down for a direct train ride. for me it's how you spend the time and not squeezing it.

Despite TGV being a fantastic form of public transport, I think many people forget actually how large France is. With all the waiting and (very) infrequent connections from CDG to NCE/Cannes on TGV, I still think flying will be by far the quickest route.

I've attempted using Eurostar/TGV to get where I need to go from Central London to South Eastern France (which I do very frequently) and sadly a run to the airport and car hire combo still gets me there quicker than TGV/Eurostar.
