JFK NRT First: AA or JAL?
Title says it all (and apologies if there's already a thread on this, couldn't find it with search). I've flown AA F on 777, and love the hard product. Service not so much. Have never flown JAL, but always love sitting in the nose of a 747. I appreciate any advice.

It's hard to imagine any major Asian carrier with F service which is not better than AA. The service culture in the States is so much different from that in Asia.
|
While there are mixed feelings about JL F to be sure, I'd never choose to take AA F when JL F was available.
I suppose there's some question about the future of JL, but one imagines that either oneworld or Skyteam will kick in to keep it around. |
JL even with the older skysleeper solo (or whatever they are called). Service is lightyears above. Japanese food is great (if you like japanese), western still better than AA, the new seats are significantly better, the older similar, but feel more spacious.
This is assuming the price is similar. If you can get AA F for Business price plus a VIP coupon or one of the many free upgrade coupons AA hands out to travel agents then this is a different issue. |
JAL now has suites on the JL 005 which are far superior to the Solo Seats on the JL047 using a 747.
Forget AA unless you have to. |
I just experienced with new JAL suite. The suite was far superior to JAL previous Solo First. Could be one of the best seat next to SQ. I would say much better than CX, ANA, Emirates and AA First. Use Tempur-pedic mattess when we sleep, and it was very comfrotable. A lot of storage space and 19" TV screen.

I have no idea why anybody of the right frame of mind would choose AA F or JL F..... JL F is light years away from AA.
|
Having flown both myself, I'll have to agree with everyone above with two exceptions:
1) If the food is important to you, and you want Western cuisine I think the AA product is better. 2) I think that the AA Flagship F is more comfortable than the old JL Solo. I haven't kept up with the new JL suites (although I'm sure they're more comfortable than AA), but I don't know if they have switched over all of the planes they use on their transpac routes. |
Thanks for all the replies. We'll go for JL 005 and report back.
