South Pacific Island for Holiday/Snorkelling direct from Sydney?

We are planning a round the world trip and will be in Sydney July/August and looking for a South Pacific Island to spend a few days. We are using oneworld so we would like to be able to fly direct from Sydney using Qantas or a oneworld affiliate such as Air Fiji. We would like to stay on a preferably quiet island where we can easily access the snorkelling (preferably without having to take a boat) and that offers other activities including walking/exploring. Any suggestions for an island and accommodation...

ps French Polynesia was on our list but not really doable with oneworld round the world

Thanks Mwenenzi . Yes, have some ideas from the oneworld group posting but hopefully will get a few more ideas in this group. Really do not know much about these islands and would welcome first hand experience of others...

Rarotonga although its JQ not QF, snorkel right from the beach just about anywhere

For somewhere more off the wall, Norfolk Island (pick summer though!)

or Noumea, which has the worlds 2nd largest barrier reef

Thanks. We will be travelling to our destination in August which is winter, so probably not the best time to go to Norfolk island, further north in the Pacific look a better bet in winter and Nouma looks good...

Just to confirm, if I can route this trip as OW *ONE* it will likely be less expensive than OW Global? I am researching Pacific Islands and will put my revised itinerary in my original post...

Jetstar JQ is OK with Global Explorer (distance based), but not OW Explorer (continent based)
https://www.oneworld.com/world-travel

The price steps *ONE3, *ONE4 are about the same as 26.000miles 34000miles. Are base costs in posts in the OW forum. Base cost vary depending on starting country.
