[NZ] Visa Questions

I'm transiting through AKL on Monday on my way to Adelaide. No worries, from what I can tell, no Visa required.

HOWEVER, I do have only a 65 minute layover and I'm coming out of SFO which has some runway construction so there is a chance that I will be stuck for a day in AKL if I miss my connection - which would not be the worse thing in the world.

So my question is, IF that happens, can I apply for a visa in the airport? Should I consider an NZeta now? They don't look terribly expensive and while not required until Oct 1, would it help?

Or will I be stuck in the airport

NZeTA starts 01 October 2019. So if arriving or transiting before that date the new NZeTA is not needed.
Before 01 October 2019 the current visa/transit process applies.
Read the NZ Government immigration web pages and determine what applies to you. USA is visa wavier country

Edit
If you are late my guess is Air NZ would send you to MEL or SYD (Air NZ flight) and then ADL on QF. Air NZ now codeshares some Aust domestic flights with QF. These have NZ flight numbers. If this happens Int to Dom transfer is a lot easier in MEL

Unlikely you'll be stuck for a day in AKL. Lots of flights to Australia.

The next flight to Adelaide is actually 2 days later. There's no way they would make you want that long, but would instead put you on a connecting flight - probably AirNZ to Melbourne or Sydney, connecting to a domestic airline to Adelaide.

That said, NZ7 has been early every day since the SFO runway construction started, so your odds of being delayed (at least by that) are low.
