Looking for Things to do from Port Douglas

Hello,

This July my 13 year old son and I will be spending one week in Port Doulgas. I have found many things to do so I want to narrow it down and start making my reservations for any excursions.

Blue Dive is who I think we will use for a day scuba trip to the Great Barrier Reef. However, I also want to do a second trip to the reef but this time on a smaller, less crowded experience.

I want to do a couple of trips to experience nature including Daintree. I also see there are other nature trips to other locations besides Daintree that might be fun as well.

Any suggestions on things to do, and any suggestions on specific tour operators, or any other advise, is hugely appreciated.

Thank you!

If you are interested in a snorkeling trip to the Great Barrier Reef, Wavelength does a really good day trip that includes three locations. It is a smaller group experience with a maximum of 40 - 60 passengers, depending on which boat. They are highly recommended on TripAdvisor, so you may want to check the forums/reviews there.

I was only in Port Douglas for two nights and did not have a car, so the only other activity I did was a short visit to Mossman Gorge, which was a nice scenic walk/hike that took under two hours and was accessible via a private bus from Port Douglas.

I think the reef groups can be much of a muchness, there are so many, and they tend to not survive if they're terrible.

The Daintree Discovery Centre is fantastic at Cape Tribulation, and the Daintree River Cruise Centre are good if you want to do a croc spotting cruise.

Closer to Cairns, I highly recommend going to Kuranda with the Skyrail and then back on the train. Kuranda itself is ok, but the journey up and back is great.

Also, try to get up to the Atherton Tablelands, if you can. The waterfall circuit is stunning and very easy to access on a tour or if you have your own car.

Enjoy!
