Bringing in food...
Wondering about brining packaged food into NZ? -Almonds? -Clif bars? -PB crackers? -peanut Butter? I'm assuming packaged dried mango and beef jerky are a hard no? Thanks! |
https://www.mpi.govt.nz/travel-and-r...l-use/#allowed this site has a good run down of the allowances headlines: declare everything even if it’s allowed commercially packaged food from first world countries is generally ok |
NZ airports have a lot of sniffer dogs who are quite adept at finding beef jerky :) Failure to declare is treated harshly by NZ these days, so be meticulous including no food from your flight. They are reasonable about it and only confiscate foods that have a biosecurity risk (some not so obvious, at least to me, such as honey).

If packaged and unopened, it is usually OK. But, you have to declare all food.
Honestly, I see no point in bringing food into NZ. It's a hassle, and whatever you are bringing is going to be available in NZ (and probably better quality). Unless it's a specific gift item or something, leave it at home. |

Declare everything is the best and only answer here.
Not sure if it's still the case but last time I went to NZ via Auckland, everybody had to have all their luggage x rayed on the way in. |
