Even a domestic to domestic flight I would not risk 60 minutes on separate tickets
If an international flight inbound even more.
If the incoming is late, by say 15 minutes you may miss the cut off for the next flight
But if you want to take the risk, its your money

I was trying to get on an earlier flight because the next flight is 3 hours after (scheduled) landing at CNS.

And will you have checked baggage? Another delay risk.
Au airlines have been enforcing carry-on size & weights in recent weeks
