Chatham Islands

I realize the Chathams are a bit off the beaten track but I hope someone has some recent experience. I am uncertain on just how much time to spend there on an upcoming trip in October. My interests are the geology and unique flora and fauna and it looks like experienced guides may available to help and offer advice once I'm there. I would also want to get to Pitt Island if weather permits, which is probably a full day trip. Is 3 full days (plus 2 travel days) going to be enough or do I need more time?

Any comments or advice would be most appreciated.

The Chatham islands are suprisingly large. If you are coming a long way to study them I'd err on a longer visit. That also gives a buffer in case of cancellation of the one daily flight to and from the islands.
