Angry NW624 (HNL to MSP): Engine Generator Failure

This is GRAND! We had to turn around 400 miles out of HNL due to an engine generator failure. We are waiting to hear our fate in HNL.

Weird how it doesn't indicate that the flight was diverted (flightstats does). But let's hope your flight does indeed get off at 8:30 p.m.

Cool A330 Being Fixed - Two Hour Repair

Thanks Slippahs. They have the part to fix our A330 here in HNL. We are going to eat our meals on the ground while they take two hours to swap out the part. They have to serve the meals since they were already being cooked. We will probably be four hours delayed into MSP. More updates to follow.

Exclamation Status

I am sitting in WBC on our A330 on the ground in HNL, having my pasta dinner (as is my wife) and watching a Hindi movie (Billu Barber), all while the engine generator is being repaired and various PAX try to sneak by the meal carts to leave and re-enter the aircraft.

Red face It's 10:15 PM... All is maybe well.

We're hoping to get out of HNL by 10:30 pm. If I don't reply back to this post, it means we did! Ciao!

Unhappy It's 10:35... Still Delayed

The engine part has been replaced, but we are missing a required O-Ring. We have one more hour to burn before our crew is over hours and illegal. However, as fate would have it... NW/DL has a chartered 747 in HNL with a crew on standby here. We'll see...

Angry Update

Flight cancelled; vouchers for taxi, Marriott along with one free coach seat per WBC PAX. Mass confusion at baggage claim and taxi stand. We're rebooked for same flight and almost same WBC seats tomorrow night.

Sorry to hear about your ordeal, but it does sound like NW did a good job taking care of you.

you were lucky to be in w.b.c.-lite seats.

the coach pax certainly didn't get the same consideration (or compensation).

Unhappy Correct: Coach PAX Had Much Harder Time

Your correct, they did not! During the five hour attempt to fix the engine generator in HNL last night, if the coach PAX didn't take advantage of the opportunity to deplane, they had to wait while the two WBC FA's served us out dinners and our ice cream. When the flight was cancelled, they had to wait in much longer lines at the DL ticket counter to pick up their vouchers, WBC PAX had a shorter line to go to using the AS ticket counter. I am not sure of the hotel the coach PAX were out up in, but it had a Hawaiin name.

I will post some pics from our ocean view room at the Marriot on my Facebook album (see link in my signature). Our replacement flight is set to leave HNL tonight at 4:45 pm. Let's hope it's a separate A330! I have been promised that it is. We'll see.

Red face Round Two

We are checked in for our "make up" flight and just wrapped up having a delicious Captain Cook pizza at the Kona Brewing company and waiting to board our A330 to MSP. I hope we have different equipment this time, as I was assured last night that we did.

I also called the PE line today and asked them to drop a suggestion to the powers that be that our inflight service for this make up flight be upgraded to International service. I told them that would go a long way to making a lot of good folks who flew in Coach a bit more content (vs having tight lips and a frown) during our flight tonight. The PE Agent promised me she would pass my suggestion along in a timely manner today. I figure, hey... it never hurts to ask!
