46 minutes enough at LAX?

So a long time ago, I managed to book a couple of (relatively) cheap M fares DCA>SYD, in anticipation of being able to use SWUs that I didn't even have at the time. The flights I booked have little resemblence to the PNR I now have, but I was able to convince the elite agents to transform my paid M coach fare into an upgraded R/Z/A-NW/DL SWU trip from DCA to SYD. There have been multiple schedule changes between Febreuary (when I booked) and October (when I will travel), and now I am looking at a PNR with a 46 minute connect time at LAX. Inbound MSP>LAX NW 711 connecting to DL 17 LAX>SYD. Question is, should I make another 20 phone calls to try to reroute myself in order to get to LA sooner, or with the merged ops, I should be ok with this set-up? I don't transit at LAX more than once every 1-2 years, so I need advice!

Assuming that your MSP flight is on time, you're looking at a VERY tight connection. I haven't been through LAX since NW moved to T5, but I'm assuming both of those flights are leaving from the same terminal.
I would say it's doable, but tight. Knowing that there are no more flights to SYD until the next day, I may try to get to LAX earlier, even if some of that part of the trip ends up being in Y.

I have to agree with GBadger. 46 minutes might be a little tight. Flights can arrive/depart from either T5 or T6. I'm sure the SYD flight would leave from T5, but if your NW flight arrives at T6, you will have to move pretty quickly to make it to the SYD flight. Also, it opens up the chance for you bags to not make the flight.

I'd see if there is a chance to jump on the earlier flight from MSP, or even try to go standby on the day of just in case.
