Burning Miles - Booked NWA RTW Biz

Hi all -

Just wanted to mention what seemed to me to be the best way to burn NWA miles before World Perks is gone at the end of the year: RTW biz class.

NWA RTW Biz is 220K miles. On DL it is, I believe, 280K.

I had to call a number of times to successfully put the itinerary together -- getting a good agent and being very flexible helps a lot.

Here's the routing I booked for my wife and I in case you're interested:

JFK --> SIN (DL via NRT)
SIN --> ICN (Korean)
ICN --> BOM (Korean)
BOM --> NCE (AF via CDG)
NCE --> ACC (Alitalia via FCO)
ACC -->JFK (DL)

Thanks to all for the always informative posts!

Nice, creative trip! By my calculation, via Flying Fish, that's 29,174 miles. I don't remember the exact number, but I thought they had limited the number of miles flown on RTW tickets - I'm not sure exactly, but I thought it was something like 28K?

After a search, I found my own answer here:

It's 29K flown miles. Some other rules at the above link, too, for anyone who's thinking about booking it! In particular, post #7 by Bowgie.

Great idea, uptownnow! How many days will you spend in each city? Can I ask why you are going to ACC? What's there to do there?

Uptownnow, can you tell us how much you paid in taxes and surcharges? I see you have AF longhaul in there, which I've found to be prohibitively expensive of late.

Hi jaimemayo, The whole trip is over 4 1/2 months from end of January '10 to mid-June. ACC is because I run a charity (www.amend.org if you're curious... traveling to Africa all the time is why I have all the miles) and we have an office in Accra, Ghana and want my wife to see our work there.

Initially, I wanted to do BOM to NBO and across Africa via KQ (we have an office in DAR, too), but turns out you can't use KQ on RTW award tix.

Hi TrayflowInUK,

Taxes were $221 US / person for the whole thing, or so the agent told me. Oddly, they have not charged my card for the taxes yet, or even taken the miles out of my account, even though I booked this three weeks ago and can see the itinerary in there.

Congratulations on booking the RTW -- there must be dozens of us who give up for every one who manages to book one successfully.
