KLM Luggage Question

Originally I was on Northwest from Nashville to FCO (Rome) and from FCO back to Nashville. They changed the return and gave me an extra stop thru Amsterdam on KLM. They have tougher luggage requirements :( Will they apply since I am going international etc It is a 737. I bought the ticket June 17, 2009. I sent an email to Northwest see response

Thank you for contacting nwa.com. I understand you would like to know the baggage fees associated with your reservation. As far as I know KLM's policies are the same as ours. Those regulations are enclosed below for you to read over. Customers who purchase reservations on or after June 27, 2009 for travelon or after July 1, 2009 can check one piece of baggage per coach passenger traveling internationally to Europe, and two pieces for all other international destinations. The checked baggage may have linear dimensions (height + length + width) of 62 inches. The baggage may weigh up to 50 pounds. For travel to Europe a second piece of checked baggage will require payment of a $50 fee. Passengers who purchased prior to June 27, 2009 can check two bags with the weight and dimensions above without a fee. Additionally the fee does not apply to First or Business Class passengers, SkyMiles or WorldPerks Elite members, active duty military members traveling on orders and passengers confirmed on full Y class economy tickets. Passengers departing from Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris, France, and departing from Amsterdam are exempt from this fee. For travel with an origin and destination outside the U.S./Canada (i.e. within Asia or within Europe), the weight concept applies. The weight concept allows a maximum weight for baggage, per person, that can be checked free of charge. The free weight applies to the total weight of all bags checked by an individual. This maximum checked baggage weight limitation is 20 kilograms for Coach Class and 30 kilograms for BusinessElite. For lap infants, the maximum is 10 kilograms. Additionally, Northwest will accept one carry-on item with a maximum linear dimension of 45 inches. This piece must be of a size and shape to fit under the seat in front of the passenger, or in an enclosed overhead compartment. In addition to the one piece of carry-on baggage, customers may also carry a purse, briefcase, or laptop computer. Baggage not meeting these specifications must be transported as checked baggage. For information about updated security procedures and baggage restrictions visit http://nwa.com/features/advisory.html For additional baggage questions, please visit our Baggage Information pages online at http://www.nwa.com/travel/luggage/index.html I trust this information will assist you in your baggage questions. Thank you for choosing Northwest Airlines, now part of Delta Air Lines. We value your patronage and consider it a privilege to serve your travelneeds. Sincerely, Chrystal nwa.com

May want to check fine print as well. If sold as KL flt (whether KL or NW metal) and going thru AMS to another city- 2 bags free. If sold as NW flt, 2nd bag is $50. Exceptions- final destination is only AMS or CDG. So if flying thru AMS on NW equip to AMS, try to buy as KM codeshare if more than one luggage.
