are two segments of NW27 using the same A330?
 

NW27 SFO-NRT-PVG, all on 330, wondering if it is actually the same aircraft doing the job on both segments.

usually yes, same continuing aircraft and you just have to deplane in NRT.

Actually, the answer is usually no. When you get to NRT you will have to get off the plane and go through a security check again. Chances are pretty good you will be going to a different gate and a different aircraft for your continuing flight.

I'm not sure why this happens at NRT but it seems to be the way things happen there.

Besides...why does it matter? You have to get off the plane with all of your belongings when you land at NRT. Don't be concerned about the connecting flight waiting for you. If the first leg of NW27 is severely delayed, NW will allow the continuation of NW27 to leave without the connecting pax and you will be re-accommodated when you get to NRT.

Thanks for the response. I was trying to figure out the flow of aircraft at NRT hub at this time.

I am flying this Saturday on NW27 to PVG from SFO. Due to the health situation, China is doing a pretty agressive quarantine program, especially for US flights, if anyone on the airplane that is suspicious, you will be quarantined, ususally for 7 days. After you exit the airport, if anyone on the same flight turns out to have the flu (say on the 2nd day or the third day), you will still be tracked down and quarantined. The measures are extreme and very unpleasant.

So I am trying to avoid taking NW27, at least on the 2nd leg from NRT to PVG, if possible. I have heard, due to health inspection in Japan, many people misconnect at NRT. NWA will put you up in a hotel and book you on a flight on the 2nd day. I was hoping I will misconnect at NRT then take another flight later. If I end up being on a MU, NH, or KE flights to PVG, I will have a much better chance of not getting into trouble (due to smaller percentage of US originating passengers and less focus on these flights from Chinese authorities).

Correct. Most all flights through NRT end up on a different aircraft, it all just depends on the rotation that day. As Rob said, though, it doesn't really matter. You still have to exit the aircraft and go through connecting security.

I flew through NRT outbound to TPE on 5/4 and we were held on the plane for about 45 minutes while Japanese authorities checked the questionnaires and scanned everyone's temperature. (NW19 connecting to NW 21) A few people were told in advance that their connections would break, but mine held.

I returned on 5/11 and there was no inspection of any kind on landing -- and the people who I saw last week at NRT in the biohazard suits were nowhere to be seen.

Not sure if the precautions may have ended?

I think the inspection is one direction. Anything coming from US, Mexico, and maybe soon Canda will be inspected. Anything coming from other asian countries to Japan will just undergo regular procedure.

Were there any special procedure at TPE?

"usually no" is the correct answer. But in this case, NW27 is the same aircraft SFO-NRT-PVG, at least according to the current schedule.

Interesting. In TPE, as you walked down the long arrival's hall to immigration you passed a booth with two people who would answer questions -- and there seemed to be a thermal scan going on, but it spanned maybe a 15 foot wide opening, it didn't seem like it would be too effective.

I'll be taking NW27 from SFO, but coming in from SLC on DL. Do I have to exit security at SFO to get to NW27?

Yes. NW27 will leave from the International Terminal at SFO which will require you to go through another TSA-standard security check before entering the International Terminal.
