SFO to NRT to ???
 

The NW flight from DTW to NGO continues on to MNL. We usually fly this route to/from BOS. Does anybody know if the NW flight from SFO to NRT continues on elsewhere? If so, is it usually overbooked in economy? The DTW to NGO/MNL flight often seems to be packed in economy and overbooked.

Mrs.TokyoKid, BabyTokyoKid, and I will be flying BOS-DTW-SFO-NRT-NGO for the first time in August. The aircraft, an A330, is a much more comfortable aircraft than the one operating out of DTW (747-400). I plan on getting seats in the first economy cabin since it has power ports (laptop for me and portable DVD player for BabyTokyoKid). Using WorldPerks Miles, our return flight from BOS has us arriving in SFO around 9:45pm. We plan on spending the night at a nearby airport hotel before departing the next day on a 1:35pm flight to NRT.

Any advice on child friendly hotels by the airport, seats on the A330 (I have checked Seat Guru and Seat Expert), flying out of SFO, travelling with an 18 month old who will most likely be walking on her own by then (i.e. things to see and do at SFO), etc., would be greatly appreciated. This will be BabyTokyoKid's third round trip transPacific flight so we're becoming quite experienced. :cool:

Last time I took NW27, it was pretty empty, I had an two empty seats next to me in the forward Y cabin.

It really depends on day of the week...in my experience this flight tends to be more full on F-Sa-Su-M. They will have a great experience...in my mind NW's A330s offer the best Y experience across the Pacific. Make sure to enjoy the WCs in SFO and NRT.

WC in the international wing at SFO? If I go DTW-SFO-NRT, is there a shuttle on the air side? or do I have to clear security again in SFO?

Don't forget that you have the BART transit system at the SFO airport to take you (easily) downtown. I did an overnighter to SFO a few years ago, and got on BART and went to a Courtyard by Marriott a block or two from Market street. It was an easy walk, and an enjoyable "extra" for the trip. If this idea appeals, look for your favorite hotels online, and the BART website.

One key is if they will let you check your baggage through to NGO (from BOS). If yes, then you can just pack a small carry-on with what you need overnight in SFO. If not, then you have some bags to lug around.

It used to not be a problem for an overnight connect, as long as it was "next flight out". Now though, sometimes they have a problem with a long connect, and want you to check your bag to the intermediate point, claim it, then recheck it, claiming "security." (Maybe this is a TSA rule?) Curious that they don't seem to trust being able to keep baggage that has been scanned by them to remain secure within their own system??

Another question is (if not an elite) and you must check to SFO: Will they charge you for your bagsm even though BOS>SFO is part of an international itinerary? I just looked at the baggage policy, and see nothing about that. If I remember correctly, that point used to be addressed previously.

With a name like TokyoKid, why go on to Nagoya? Shouldn't NRT be your destination? :confused: ;)

I *think* you have to clear security again in SFO. Last time I did SEA-SFO-NRT, my SEA-SFO flight on AS was really delayed, so I just booked it for the int'l terminal.

My friends don't call me the International Man of Mystery for nothing. TokyoKid is meant to through off/confuse ninja assassins and other evil doers from locating my true whereabouts! Maybe I don't actually live in the NGO area. Maybe I arrive in NGO and take the shinkansen to the KIX region. OKA? NGS? :cool:
