Arrow Sneak Peak at 2009 WorldPerks Program

Hello,

We have some exciting news that is going out today. Effective January 1, 2009, you'll be able to earn Elite Qualifying Segments on all Delta-operated flights. As you are already aware of, you need 100 segments to qualify for Platinum, 60 for Gold and 30 for Silver. This should help you even more as you try to obtain/maintain WorldPerks Elite status.

The other news I have is that we're introducing a new mileage award level that offers increased availability over the current PerkSaver. This will begin in mid-January 2009. The new level will be quoted as a PerkPass award and will be automatically given to you when you book on nwa.com.

As a reminder, we've eliminated our fuel surcharges for award tickets and are currently offering complimentary Elite upgrades on Northwest and Delta-operated flights.

Those are all the program changes for now, and I'll be sure to keep you all posted as we move forward with merging the two loyalty programs.

Not the complete listing of changes...

As the details only pertains to benefits for Skymiles members, It's pretty obvious that this is just a short listing of the preliminary changes.

Major changes I expect will be forthcoming......

1. Reduction of 125% to 100% of Platinum Bonus Miles on NW flights
2. Elimination of complimentary upgrades on domestic economy award travel.
3. Discontinuation of upgrades on CO. (Pretty big one)
4. Elimination of Elite ExtraPerk Privileges
5. Increase of Worldclub/Crown Room Dues (or reduced discounts)
6. Companion domestic upgrades (ADDED 12/11)

Did I miss anything???

Jiburi

PS-Above 5 listing is only a speculation at the moment.....

IIRC, this is the first time they've offered a (fairly) specific date for the 3-tier award structure with NW miles.

Adding: Normalizing award levels (gutting WP to its partisans!) is a necessary step before allowing miles to be transferred between programs. Maybe that capability is coming along pretty soon.

Good call, I missed that the first time reading through. Umm... I will be a little more direct and say Scoopy is doing everyone a favor and telling you have until the middle of next month to dump your NW miles.

Does this still mean that we will only get 100% bonus miles as a Plat on Dl or do we now get 125% like on NW?

That's a comprehensive list, but still 100% speculative at this point, is it not?

(I grant you probability approaches 1 on #3.)

Maybe I'm being a naive optimist, but in some random searches, I've found reasonalbe DL availability at their equivalatent of perk saver, not the intermediat level. At least for international business class. I'm williing to wait and see what happens.

Question 3 tiers, but with or without further devaluation?

Does that mean that the mileage award chart is changing to match Delta's? Example: Take a RT to Europe in Y. Right now, it's 50k/100k WP miles, or 60k/90k/125k SM miles. Introducing another tier is one thing; increasing the lowest (Saver) award from 50k to 60k is another. (Another example: the lowest NW award to Hawai`i is 35k in Y, for DL it's 40k.)

What about SWU's

A previous thread had an article that speculated NWA Plats would get the DL Plat SWU upgrades. Any idea if this is going to happen? I'm not going to get them via ExtraPerks so I'd sure like to see this...

Oh, OK. Thanks. I'm just not all that familiar with Worldperks.

As to the 3 tier deal - if you maintain Gold you'll probably like it.

If you go to Platinum you'll probably love it.
