Consolidated Bombings in Mumbai Thread [Safety of NW Crew/Rescheduling] 11/27/2008

Both of the layover hotels were NW and DL crews stay were fired upon, bombed and have hostages. The last that we have heard is that inbound NW crew were being held on the plane for their safety. These terrorist are looking for tourists with U.S. and British passports.

Julie Showers has said that all NW crew members on layover in Mumbai have been accounted for.

A call to in-flight services to the girls who man the desks claim that 5 crew members are unaccounted for.

We haven't gotten any news about the DL crews. Their hotel lobby is being used to hold hostages.

Also the Cafe' Leopold was also hit. A popular place for crews to go on their down time for eating and socializing.

I pray all are ok.

Glad to hear that all of the NW crew are accounted for. Who are the crew that are unaccounted for?

This is pretty scary stuff and it's hard to tell how bad it is with hostages, etc. Sounds like chaos.

The travel waiver is now up for Mumbai.

We were set to leave tomorrow morning from Seattle for Mumbai and this marks the second diversion in one week for this trip (we were trying to go via Thailand originally!).

The Plat line was really nice and the waiver is very generous. I am on a paid J ticket and my wife was on a WP award. There was no problem finding J space into DEL on KL, but there was nothing in award (D) space. But the waiver says "cabin for cabin" rebooking, so they moved her over to the flight into J class. We're cancelling the planned weekend (which was originally booked in the Intercon Marine Dr right in the heart of things in Mumbai) and waiting until Saturday to fly to make sure things calm down.

At this point, NW has pulled all the crew names on the in bound and out bound flights. I guess it's to contact families of crew members first before anyone else can contact the families.

We haven't heard anything about the DL crew members.

I guess the thing to do is to check for departures out of Mumbai for both NW and DL. I understand NW is shooting for a 3:30 am dep out of Mumbai.

Since we don't know about the outbound crew, the inbound crew being kept on the plane may get a minimum of rest in the bunks and man the plane out of Mumbai back to AMS.

In the past during the first Gulf War, we'd fly down to the Gulf and turn around and come right back.

So any number of scenarios could happen at this point.

While my heart goes out to the crews, isn't it insignificant suffering compared to the 90+ dead and 900+ injured?

Thank sxf24. Good to know they all made it out. I'll pass the word to the employees of NW.

Of course the dead and injured are important. But this happen where NW crew members stay. We don't know if they are part of the dead or injured.

It looks like we have an EAP team on the way to AMS for the employees already there and support/debriefing when we can get the employees in India out.

They're safe!

This is an email blast we received from NWA AFA-CWA:

26 NOVEMBER 2008

SECURITY ALERT : BOM UNREST!

As reported by the media, BOM (Mumbai) has undergone coordinated terrorist attacks aimed at Westerners. NWA AFA-CWA has been in constant contact with Corporate Security, Scheduling and Base Operations throughout the day to ensure the safety and security of our crewmembers.

The Company has worked with all crewmembers to notify families and loved ones concerning their safety/security and current status. Also, the U.S. State Department has set up a special ‘hotline’ on the BOM situation: 1-888-407-4747.

Can you let us know where you're going next so we can not go there?
