i thought it was 5k, but the general award chart on nwa.com says 10k. does this chart govern hawaiian airlines?

Yes, it's 10k on Hawaiian Airlines (or on a NW flight, e.g., OGG-KOA). The only 5k inter-island award right now is UA on Island Air (WP).

I'm pricing out a 3 city HA award itin and it keeps telling me 40k per person.

HNL>KOA
KOA>LIH (via HNL, which I think is why it's adding the extra 10k)
LIH>HNL

This should be 60k, per person, nwa.com says 20k.

EDIT: I just noticed a disclaimer on NWA's site that says "some interisland flight may require additional mileage"... I'm guessing that's why.

kcnwa,

Unless you are looking to burn miles why not pay cash for these flights? HA has a fare sale as low as $39 per flight right now.

I was just looking, being that they are all 10k miles, I won't book until we get closer (November)

80k miles vs 39*2*3 + taxes isn't bad and would probably do that. But looking at a couple of the flights I want they are 114 per person each way (popular flight I guess).

Plus, if DL slides in the partner award fee, then it would be totally useless.

And so do the other carriers.

Has anyone had success redeeming SM for an inter-island award? Are there any tricks to getting this done? I ask because Delta tells me there is no award availability for any single day in the month of May, but for the dates I'm looking to travel (HNL to LIH on 5/8 and LIH to OGG on 5/11), I was able to find award seats on Hawaiian Airlines via Continental, United, US Air, and American.

Are there any cheap flights for this year like that? I am wondering if it would be better to use miles or just pay. I can't find any cheap flights for November 2011.

There hasn't been a fare sale that brought fares below $60 o/w for quite some time now. . . .
