Leaving at layover

Hi all,
I'm flying Northwest/KLM BRU-AMS-YVR and back the same route. The problem is, when I return, I would prefer to get off at AMS. If I have just carry-on, I would just walk out. But what do I do if I have checked in luggage? Should I just tell them in YVR? Would it be considered a ticket change since the AMS-YVR-AMS flight was actually more expensive? thanks.

I think your choice here comes down to:
1) Fly to BRU with your luggage and pay for a 1-way train ticket home.
2) Get off at AMS while your luggage continues on to BRU, and pay for a round trip train ticket to go get it.

You can ask at YVR whether it's possible to collect your bag at Schiphol and then "re-check" it (with no intention of doing so). Not sure whether that's possible.
And KL likely would not ship your bag to NL for you, since they delivered it exactly to where you wanted it to go (BRU) on time.

If you actually have an overnight layover in AMS ticketed, you should be able to get your luggage checked through to AMS only.

Unfortunately not. I have less than 2 hours in AMS.

So I'm guessing that I can't just check in at YVR and tell them I'm getting off at AMS?

You could try... but I think the likelihood of success depends on if your agent is strictly "by the book" when it comes to rules or if your agent is accommodating.

I'd say plan for a train ride. :)

You can tell the check-in agent at YVR that you will make changes to your ticket when you are in AMS, and ask the agent only checks you to AMS.
