"Fly now"question
Could not find the definitive answer to this in a search of this forum and nwa.com. Do you need to keep the same routing to use the "fly now" option. Have a double connection coming up and would like to eliminate changing planes twice. Also can anyone confirm if it is eastern or central time when this option becomes available? Any previous experiences shared would be appreciated.

Answer received from NWA less than definitive as well.
Thank you for contacting nwa.com Customer Service. Confirmed flight changes will be offered during self-service check-in for reservations that allow flight changes. Select the "Change Flight" button to view alternate flight options. FlyNow allows customers to confirm alternate domestic flights for a fee of USD 25.00. FlyNow options are available all day on the same day as the originally confirmed flight(s). FlyNow options are only offered when check-in occurs on the same date as the confirmed flights. If FlyNow is not available, or for flights the next day, a change flight option may be available that may include an additional collection for any fare difference along with applicable fees. If you have additional questions, please visit our Frequently Asked Questions section at http://www.nwa.com/checkin/faq.shtml I believe this information will answer your questions about this reservation. Thank you for choosing Northwest Airlines. We value your patronage and consider it a privilege to serve your travel needs. Sincerely, BobbySue nwa.com Customer Service Message: I have a question re: the "Fly-now" option. Do you need to keep the same routing, i.e.--if you are originally ticketed for a fsd-msp-dtw-ewr routing can you obtain the "fly now" option for just fsd-msp-ewr (eliminating a connecting flight)? Also when does the "fly now" option become available--12 am Eastern time or Central time on the day of travel? |

From a search on nwa.com:
FlyNowsm Fee Northwest Airlines' FlyNow option allows customers to confirm an alternate, qualifying domestic flight operating anytime during the day with the same origin and destination for $25. This added Northwest convenience is a reasonably priced alternative to standing by for another flight. FlyNow provides you with more options, greater control and the comfort of knowing that you are confirmed on your new desired flight. The FlyNow option is available to customers checking in on the day of departure at nwa.com or at a Self-service Check-in Kiosk for flights within the continental United States, Alaska and to/from Canada. Customers traveling on refundable tickets may continue to confirm same-day flight changes without incurring a fee. View FlyNow Fee Frequently Asked Questions for more information. Note: Customers have the ability to standby for earlier flights the entire day of departure. WorldPerks Elite customers will not incur a fee if a standby seat becomes available. Effective April 24, 2007, Non-Elite customers traveling on non-refundable tickets will incur a $25 fee once they have boarded the alternate flight. |
The new routing must conform to the requirements of the paid fare, however.

Can one use FlyNow to get on a flight not permitted by the fare rules? For instance, NW has time-of-day specific fares in the F cabin to match SY. Can one book one of these NW fares in F and then use FlyNow to travel in F on any available flight same day?
