B Fare Required for Stopover to Asia?

Trying to book a flight to PEK, ex US with stopover in NRT on the way over in Oct.
Nwa always prices it as a very expensive B fare.

Is it just my dates? Or does it make a difference if the stopover is on the way back?

Or does stopover always require B or higher fare? I'm sure in the past I did this on a Q fare, but then I'm getting older.

It's possible a B fare is required for a stopover, but perhaps unlikely. IMO they might charge for a stopover on lower fares, and prohibit stopovers on the very lowest.

It's also possible that B is the lowest available fare for your travel dates. Any chance to check fare rules and availability by bucket... ExpertFlyer, perhaps?

Cheapest fare(QLXAB7) with a free stopover restricts a Japan stopover. If you just need a day you can take my route to NRT and force an overnight at NRT.

HLSR1 will give you a stop over for $150.

MLSR2 will give one in each direction for $50.

Thanks. That probably explains it even though the fares I'm looking at are in September which seems to be outside of the dates for this fare.

You can also look for mixed fare basis ticket. B for the segments that need stopover and lower fare basis for the other segment.

Q allows a free stopover in NRT. On return, you could get a V fare.

I assume that the OP departure city is in the US and the QLCA1 is available to be purchased in Canada. Is the QLCA1 is available to be purchased and issued in the US?

I found out that even for the same set of routing, the country where you issue the ticket sometime has totally different set of fare rules than others.
