Delta Flight Codeshare with NWA

I am searching for a direct flight from the US to FCO - no luck on NWA, all their flights are into Amsterdam with a connection to Rome. I did find a Delta flight out of JFK direct to FCO - how can I check to see if the flight is a codeshare with Northwest? We would be flying from Detroit to JFK then JFK to FCO. I guess I could call NWA but I thought there might be a website that would give me that information. I definitely want to earn EQM for the flight.

You will earn EQM on a Delta flight even if not a code-share. See http://www.nwa.com/worldperks/earn/airfl.shtml

Also, unless there is a reason for wanting to fly from JFK specifically, there is a non-stop CO flight from EWR, but be aware that lower fare buckets do not earn full (NW) EQM. If it just a connection (and not a stopover) in New York, you could also connect in ATL on DL.

Three posts in 3 years! A belated welcome to flyertalk.
From Detroit there are no non-stops to Rome. But Amsterdam is a very easy airport to connect through, definitely better and less delay-prone than JFK. You may even qualify for a bonus here or there, for example if you are Elite.

I did check CO from EWR, flight was much more expensive than DL. We have flown on NWA from DTW to AMS many times and connected to other cities throughout Europe. I am trying to avoid the 6:30 am or even 9am flight out of FCO for our return - no way around it if we connect through AMS. We can fly directly from Rome to JFK leaving in the afternoon, arriving back to JFK around 5:30 and then get a flight back to Detroit that same evening. I thought that Delta flights would get us the EQM but I am a little nervous after booking a CO flight earlier this year - we didn't check to see if the fare was eligible before booking and we did not receive all of our miles. We definitely don't want that to happen again!

Thanks for your replies.

Be careful, only DL metal earns 100% EQM, not DL-coded AZ metal. See here

AZ has a whole slew of codes that earn only 50% RDM and EQM. AF is even worse.

I appreciate that extra bit of information. I did see a flight from JFK to FCO that was operated by AZ but I thankfully found another flight operated by DL. I was concerned about booking an AZ flight - not sure they will still be flying in September!

I can understand trying to avoid the early morning flight. I usually do this by hopping back to AMS the night before my return to the states. If the layover is less than 24 hours on international flights then it's the same price for the flight. Doing this helps break up the return plus you get an evening to spend in AMS for free. Just something else you might consider. NW AMS-DTW flies a lot of A330's...it's a nice ride and even in Coach you've got IFE at your seat.

Have a great trip!

Has anyone tried to check two bags on a DL flight ,that was a NWA code share? I called last week and no one at NWA was sure of the rules at all. Getting out of TPA next week Delta is the only choice since the early MEM flight has been pulled.
