Excess Baggage Charge for Elite

I am a SE and recently I was traveling to Mexico on an award ticket via CO. My bag was 56-lbs. (Don't ask). I didn't make a fuss at the check in counter about paying the $50. But the more I thought about it, I thought I had heard/read/wished that the fee was waived for Elite members? Daydream or fact?

Thanks-

They waived the fee for "second checked-in luggage" for elite members, not for excess weight.

The waived second carryon is only for NWA flights, no?

However, OnePass Elite get 70lbs. I would have spent $10 on a cheap duffel and offloaded some stuff. .

Any recent experience with overweight bags if EUA clears and you're in F? Didn't use to be a problem, but I'm wondering since all of the new fees have been implemented if they are now catching and separating paid F from U/G F.

I ask because I'm getting ready to travel with the family and it would be much easier for us to travel with our one gigantic bag with four wheels, which weighs in around 60 pounds fully loaded, rather than breaking it into two bags (plus a carseat, stroller, pak-n-play, and the 3 year old and 3 month old). I was planning on splitting the reservation next week, a week out, so my upgrade would clear, giving me the extra baggage/weight allowance.

There is no difference between paid F and EUA F. I recently checked two bags over 50, one of which was technically over girth (they would have been within policy to charge me for that one but it was close so they let it slide), plus a third bag for $0 on an upgraded discount fare.
