I'm just a lowly silver... Honestly still waiting to see what transpires.
Have had GREAT luck / experiences with NW, and hate to see any of it go away.

No airline merger of this nature has ever yielded advantages for customers. They rarely even advantage the companies themselves.

Pan Am + National: Disastrous for the resulting company.
Delta + Pan Am: Disastrous for Pan Am.
Northwest + Republic: Crippling, divisive, disastrous for the resulting company.
Delta + Western: Disastrous for the Western service area: reduced flights, dropped cities and routes, higher prices, less choice.
USAir + PSA: Disastrous for the PSA service area: dropped cities and routes, layoffs, higher prices, less choice.
AA + Reno Air: Disastrous for the Reno Air service area: dropped routes, higher prices, less choice.
AA + TWA: Disastrous for St. Louis and TWA employees: reduced flights, dropped cities and routes, less choice.
USAirways + America West: A resounding disaster for the American people: the resulting company is the worst major airline in the world.

Now:

Delta + Northwest: More choice, more benefits, better service.

HA. SURE.

When the people engineering airline mergers lead off with demented rhetoric about how it's a "win for customers," "win for employees," etc., how does anyone keep from retching? They are NEVER a win.

No one asked me before the merger. The answer is still nay.
It's the end of an era.
