DTW WC - which one to use?

We are flying to CDG on Saturday evening via DTW from EWR (use of CO miles for upgrade). We have never been to DTW and have no idea which WC is most convenient / best one to use. We have a 2.5 hour layover. Also any great places to get a bite to eat?

Thanks in advance....from a frequent flyer who is soooo looking forward to the NW WBC in the 330.

I just landed in LGW today from NW WBC on the A330 - you're going to like it! Very comfortable way to travel. The service, again, wasn't amazing but I was perfectly happy with the seat, the new aircraft, the decent main course (beef was good) and the wines.

The WC in the center of the concourse (near the shops) is probably best for you...the Paris flights leave nearby I believe (Gate 40 or so?). It's a great club - plenty of room, good furnishings, free booze, etc. The food offerings aren't great (cheese, carrots, celery, snack mixes), but everything else is.

I know it's a bit tacky, but the Jose Cuervo Tequileria has decent food and excellent margaritas if you're up for that. Food-wise, their crab cakes & salads are probably the 'lighter' options and most flyer-friendly. It's up near gate 60, right below the train stop.

There are 3 clubs in concourse A so just pick the one that is nearest your gate. On Saturday the two clubs at the each end close early.

As for restaurants, I will recommend that you do NOT eat at Jose Cuervo Tequileria near Gate A66. Simply awful the last time we were there. Try this link for food ideas.

Try Max & Erma's. I remember they had pretty good pasta.

I also ate at Sora for their Japanese food. It was good but can be pretty pricey.

If you fly into DTW on CO you will arrive in Concourse B and there is a nice club near the tunnel to concourse A where your flight to Paris will depart from. I would recommend the main club in the middle of concourse A. It does have a smoking room (pretty nasty) if you are so inclined. As for food, National Coney Island near gate 40 is great. kinda greasy but good food.

Have a nice trip.

I like the main club as well - try to grab some of the window seats, which look down on the main concourse (decent people watching).

As for food, I'm a big fan of the Japanese/Sushi restaurant. It's around the 30's gates, I believe. Good, fresh Sushi, and not terribly overpriced.

Enjoy your flights, and enjoy DTW. Let us know what you thought of the NW experience (lounges, WBC).

BB.

And my preference is one of the clubs at either end of the concourse where you can watch the airplanes. Often, I think a bit quieter and less crowded.

Intercontinental flights are most likely going to leave from fairly close to the middle of the A concourse, so the central WorldClub is a good choice (it was anyway, but this reinforces it).

Only the main WC available

Since you are flying on Saturday evening, the only WC open at that time will be the main one near gate 40. The NW flight schedule says the CDG flight is leaving from gate 34 tonight and 50 on Saturday, so it'll be 3 gates from the middle on each day to make it convenient.
As for the meal, only fancy place for dinner is in the attached hotel. Otherwise, it'll be all casual dining such as the ones mentioned above. Be sure to check out the restaurant link provided by Blank Sheet to make your choice. Just in case you are looking for fast food, there is McD (near gate 34) and BK (in center corridor under the main WC).
Have a good trip.

To answer OP's question - it just depends...the Main club to me is too large and while not ever crowded it is usually "busy"...the North & South clubs and be busy too but they tend to be more intimate but as noted only the Main club is open after noon on Saturdays

Welcome to Detroit!

The sushi place in A, near the center, was good a couple weeks ago. Pricier than our local place, but good. If you're flying WBC, though, why bother...you'll get another dinner on board, right?

You'll be departing from near the center of the A concourse, so just stick with the main Worldclub. Get a seat with a view, a stiff drink so you can sleep on the plane, and an oatmeal raisin cookie. Plenty of snacks there to get you to dinner on the plane.

When you arrive at CDG, reflect for a moment on the chaos there versus DTW. Enjoy the trip.

I dont know if you smoke, but the main WC is the only WC that has a smoking room. I would pick the main club over the other two. Actually, I'll be at the main club on Saturday evening as well...only a little earlier, on FRA flight.

YVR Cockroach Mar 14, 2008 11:08 am

Only the main club has shower facilities if you wan to have a shower before your flight.

One more vote for the sushi place in concourse A. If you're into that kind of thing, it's easily the best food in the airport. Not too far from the gates where the 330's depart from either.

As for clubs, I prefer the quieter atmosphere in the clubs at either end of the A concourse...but if the earlier post is correct that they'll be closed by then, it's a moot point.
