Coming -- No lounge in PHX

On the DL forum there is a post that DL is closing the CRC in PHX. So no lounge access. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=798995

With a dozen or so flights daily from PHX, I wonder if NW will pick up the location?

Bad news for me, since I am moving to Phoenix. I have been mulling over whether to switch to USAirways. This adds to the case for a switch. :(

US Scareways? Oh, the horror!

This is a real blow to SkyTeam flyers in and out of PHX. No one will pick up this location since it's not a focus city for any of the carriers at this point. If NW doesn't have plans for a club in IND, rest assured they will not open one in PHX.

NW used to have a WC in PHX, just a few feet farther down the Concourse from the DL CRC. But it was closed several years ago, so I doubt that NW will consider going back in there once the CRC is closed. This is most distressing, as now there will again be no lounge access for SkyTeam passengers and current WC members.

The "synergies" of SkyTeam do not seem to be working correctly. Why has CO chosen not to relocate to Terminal 3? Perhaps, if they had, there would have been enough traffic from all 3 airlines to warrant keeping the CRC open.

I realize this is just my opinion and you don't know me from the next guy, but I seriously urge you to reconsider. I know that it's nice to have the CRC there, I've used it a lot myself; however, I promise you that you will have a far worse experience if you switch to US Airways. I wish I could vote for the hometown airline, but I cannot in good conscience, recommend them to anyone. An average experience on most airlines is better than a good experience on US. Their customer service is terrible. More often than not the employees just don't seem to care. I will stop short of saying that they lie, but they will tell you anything just to get you off the phone or out of their face. I have experienced this personally and anyone I've spoken with that's flown them more than once or twice has experienced the same or similar.
By all means, judge for yourself, but just be aware that you are likely to be very disappointed.

Guess I'm torn on this one. The few times I've been in PHX, it seems to close down about 7pm. I'd spend as little time as possible airside in PHX, as there's nothing to eat, and nothing to do... except get on a plane.

There were plans for a WC in IND, so unless something has changed, there should be.

I am horrified.

Has anyone heard anything about (what I read on here) the slim chance that they were going to do CMH-AMS and open a 3rd tier WC in CMH?

Thanks for this sobering advice. I had pretty much decided to try to stay with NW, since I fly alot to AMS (though US does too through PHL). I had some bad experience in the end with HP during their late hub years at CMH and switched from them to NW a few years ago with a elite challenge. How is flying in the western part of the country and to asia out of PHX given the fact that all of the hubs are (way) east of Phoenix? I did ask about experience with Alaska airlines on this board a few weeks ago to see if that helps.

Shocking, isn't it? I've been relegated to flying out of PHX a few times and it's quite the bad airport. I've flown NW, CO, AA, and US out of there and the NW area in particular has nothing airside and, like you said, everything closes at around 7 PM. The US area isn't AS bad but still, given the fact that Phoenix is (if I recall correctly) now the 4th most populous city in the USA, one would expect a better airport.

Tucson is a relatively crappy city compared to Phoenix but there are two main reasons that I'm glad I live here instead: it's cooler in the summer and the airport is better (and prices are usually cheaper than PHX).

I'd avoid both US and connections in PHL. PHL seems to have problems when either NYC or WAS is having problems, besides its own. I've had lots of delays in PHL, but at least my connections were elsewhere.

This is, indeed, a terrible blow. The CRC was the only civil spot in an otherwise blighted wasteland that is PHX. I use it often when going to Phoenix and loved the place. Crap.

And justhere is correct. Dreadful airline.

Unfortunately, I only asked my source about IND, since TPA-PHL/DCA often are much cheaper through IND, and I've always had a couple hours or more on those layovers.
