How do I select a meal preference?

I can't find anywhere to do this. Does it become available closer to the date? The flight in question is PIT-AMS in July. It says "Dinner" but there is nowhere to make a selection (I need vegetarian or vegan, which is better by the way?). Or should I just call?

I'm in Y there and F on the way back, if that makes a difference.

Go to your reservation: https://www.nwa.com/cgi-bin/res_info.pro Under the "Update Reservation/Add Information" header, select the drop-down option labeled "View/add special service requests." From here you can select your menu selections for each passenger in the reservation. Be sure to tick the correct boxes below for the applicable flights and click continue.

Once you have entered your information you can repeat the process to make sure your selections were accepted by the system.

Vegetarian is better, by the way. I am lactose intolerant, so I always choose the vegan, which is never as good as the vegetarian option.

Thank you so much, I never would have found that. Now I just have to hope they actually have one for me!

I have always had my meal requests honored. Note that the breakfast served before arrival is apparently not considered eligible for a special meal. Even though the dinner and snacks conform to special requests, the breakfast usually served are the normal breakfast. This issue has never been addressed to my satisfaction. I have learned to accept it and pick at what I am given. I also bring some nuts and dried fruit with me (don't forget any such food must be consumed before deplaning in the EU due to agricultural customs restrictions.)

Double-check your meal requests 96-72 hours prior to departure (I believe 72 hours is the latest time your request is guaranteed to be honored.)

I am not too worried about breakfast - I generally assume it's not something I can eat (I don't eat eggs or drink milk by themselves). Plus once I fall asleep, I am usually pretty nauseated when I wake up on planes anyway. :(

Despite all my tries it is unfortunate that the "japanese" meal
still cannot be selected for TPAC flights. I think you can do it
by phone, though.

You mean it won't show up on your meal preference afterwards?

In that case don't worry. I flew SFO-NRT last Christmas and placed an order of Japanese meal online. But whenever I went back to double-check my selection it didn't show up. However when I took my flight the FA did confirm that they have my Japanese meal ready.

By "online" you mean sending TTU?

Isn't japanese meal only available in wbc? were you flying Y or wbc? I have an upcoming SFO-LAX-NRT-PEK flight and it allows me to choose Japanese Meal online. I'm flying in Z.

I have two segments coming up in the next few weeks. SFO-NRT and NRT-HNL. On both I was able to request Japanese meals.

One of the things I've noted in the past is if there is any kind of ticketing issue your special requests won't stick. i.e. you'll select the meal, but it will never show on the special requests page. It's always struck me as a bit odd that when you're on an itinerary that needs re-ticketing you can still choose a seat, but can't put in any requests.

Again, as for the "japanese" meal selection it does not show
up under the list, not even in WBC. How did you place your
request? Calling or TTU?

trineanT Mar 6, 2008 10:33 am

as we are talking about Japanese meal, anyone knows if the menu changes regularly? :confused:

I'm having NRT to MSP on U in July, checked the menu but not quite interested into it. :D

I had just been to nwa.com and Japanese meal option is available under "Special Request:" dropbox.
Don't forget to check the flights you want to have special request. :)

I verified today too. Works just fine for me online. Should work as long as all of the following are true:

* Flying between US and Japan
* On NW Metal
* In WBC
* More than 36 hours out

If it doesn't I would call. I would worry if you TTU you'll get boiler plate instructions on how to use the website.
