Hot Planes
 

It seems that every time I fly on a 757, either the -200 or the -300, the cabins are unusually hot. I was told that Northwest runs their cabin temps hotter to appeal to the Asian clientele. Is that true, or is it just the flight attendant choice? Anyone else notice it, or is it just me?

I have never heard that one before! The cabin is hot because the planes sit without any air on. The APU isn't strong enough to cool the planes sufficiently.

The F/As don't have anything to do with cabin temp. (except to complain about it http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif)

It amazes me how much heat can be stopped by shutting the window shades on the sunny side of plane.

The shades actually get hot.

Maybe the cleanup crew should be instructed to lower all the shades on the sunny side. Where'd they put that suggestion box?

I really hate getting all sweaty before we even take off, especially if it's a long flight. On the other hand, maybe I'd end up with an empty seat next to me.

That thing about the Asian clientele has got to be nonsense.

The 757 gets hot on the ground because it's a long metal tube exposing a lot of square feet of aluminum to the sun... and it's inadequately ventilated IMHO, especially the -300.

I was on the 6:45 AM CMH/DTW Flight this morning and everyone was freezing. The inside temperature of a/c seems to mirror the outside ambient temperature until the engines are running.

Seems like I notice it in the air more than on the ground. I'm not one to complain, so I don't. I really only notice it in Y. Maybe I work myself into a frenzy when I don't get upgraded =-).

I've only noticed uncmfortably-high cabin temps on DC-10s (not maintaining the non-MEL stuff?) 744 flight intra-Asia and NRT-HNL were cool enough. DC-10 flights SEA-HNL-NRT were too warm.
