Does NW offer in-flight movies from DTW-SEA, SEA-HNL or LAX-DTW? It seems like I read somewhere that they don't......

Movies are offered from SEA-HNL, but not from DTW-SEA or LAX-DTW.

Northwest does not offer in flight entertainment on any domestic flights. None of their narrow bodied aircraft are equipped with entertaninment systems anymore.

You may want to rent/bring a DVD player if your flying long haul.

well first part is correct...but some of their 320's and 755's are equipped with entertainment systems but they haven't been used since 9/11

As far as I know, all 757s (even those recently delivered) are equipped with IFE systems, even though Northwest doesn't use them.

One of the things we love about our NW flights in North America is that there is no video. I have gotten so tired on other airlines being told to close the window (I like to follow the geography if it's not cloudy) or turn out the light (when it's cloudy I read a book or do puzzles).

Wake up, Amurrica! IFE is a crutch! Read a book! You will be better off....

My aunt just returned from a trip to Anchorage & mentioned to me that NW didn't show movie. I was quite surprised. Figure if it was a 737 they wouldn't but she was on a 757 which has that capability (she didn't know in advance that they don't show movies so didn't think to bring a book w/ her).

Why would 9/11 have anything to do w/ IFE; as far as I know, the terrorists weren't watching a movie! I thought it might be a royalty issue - ie, they didn't want to pay the studio for movie or network for shorts.

And while I read frequently on planes, I also like the option of watching a movie (especially if I've been traveling so much I've missed it at the theatre). To me, not having movies on transcons is a disadvantge of NW compared to other airlines.

And you're asked to pull down the shade if you're not looking outside - if you are, then don't put it down. Same w/ reading light.

I noticed the superficial h/w for IFE on (2) 757s appear to be on (channel selector) and installed (video monitors) but not running. A320 videos in the bulkhead appear to have been ripped out and the channel selector was dark.

NW dumped IFE pre-9/11 as a cost-cutting measure... consumer surveys revealed that low fares were more important that things like food, entertainment, etc. Thus, NW delivered -- their fares are competitive in almost every market and they’ve nixed multiple fare increase attempts by other airlines. IFE will return in the future - when the industry’s healthy … the B753 have drop-down video monitors, similar to those found on CO’s … these will be installed on the A319/A320 fleet.

In the meantime, bring a laptop/portable DVD player … or try a book – you’ll enjoy yourself more http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif.

FWIW: I flew IAH-MCO on a CO B764 that was oversold… despite the IFE systems at every seat, only a handful of people purchased – or used their previously purchased – headset…

I also think that if LAX-HNL and SEA-HNL have IFE, then MSP-ANC and DTW-ANC should as well...

DVD player and movie rentals are now available at 19 airports in the US/Canada from InMotion ... you can return the player at your destination at a store location in the aiport (or drop box) or they will give you a pre-paid UPS box to return everything.
Cost runs about $10-$15/day including movies.
Locations include MSP, SEA, LAS, MCO...

Granted, I fly on another airline & just posted here because my aunt mentioned the no IFE thing, but - hmm, let's see. If I have an option btwn NW & another airline for approx same cost (forgetting the ff thing for the moment) & the other airline offers free IFE & I don't have to muck around w/ trying to rent stuff from 19 airports, guess which airline I'm going to choose?! Geesh...

InMotion is worth checking out even if you're on a carrier that's showing movies in-flight. The ability to choose a film that you actually *want* to see can mean a lot, especially if you're stuck in coach and you've already seen the movie twice this month.

Thanks. Just bought expensive last- minute tickets from Lax-Rst (via Msp). Looking forward to reading a book with shades-up. Kudos to NW for providing discount fares to Mayo Clinic in Rst. This was defintely customer-friendly and much appreciated.

Are you being sarcastic about the fares? I'm so jaded that I can't even tell anymore...
