GRR Mini-mini-Hub? :-)
Without passing on gossip or other "not backed up" info yet, has any other person our there heard some info about exanded direct flights out of GRR? With the TPA and MCO flights already considered an early success coming up about a month into the program, I have heard from a couple normal reliable sources, one and possibly two additional directs.

Maybe they could start a shuttle service, DTW-FNT-GRR-MKE-MSP, to connect their hubs and mini-hubs. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

That shuttle service might as well swing on up to TVC while they're that close http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Pellston could use a direct flight this time of year to somewhere warm. As far as GRR-MCO, I'm on that flight in a week. I think there's a demand for expanded non-stop service and NWA is finally seeing the light that jetBlue et al are mastering. The fact that NWA has non-stops to MEM, MSP and DTW as well as the Florida routes is a good sign that they're finally paying attention to demand. The Lansing-Las Vegas that Allegiant Air started will make NWA take note of that route as well. There's something to be learned from these other airlines that run profitable routes that people actually want and fill planes to fly them. Can only be a win-win for us who want to fly from nearby and to more choices. Can't wait to get out of this snow.

Interesting topic. I was looking at a trip to MEM and back next month. Only 3 flight options from MEM to GRR. One direct, one connects in DTW and one in CLE. The worst part is that two of the flights are before 900 am and there is only one evening flight at 630PM.
BTW - The cost is $611 round trip! |

Looks like we have a lot of Northwest Michigan members here!
That 611.00 GRR-MEM rate is ridiculous. We're doing TVC-EYW next month for just over 300.00! |
With our luck they'd send a Saab 340 and be overbooked. I would like to see NWA expand service from TVC PLN GRR/MSP to open up options to west coast. Seems a lot of routes go to DTW then MSP then on to west coast. And the kicker is those are the lower fares. I pay more for the direct routes and even the WorldClub access doesn't shorten the trip enough. But I guess if I wasn't so loyal to NW I'd fly someone else who has direct routes. TC Girl, what do you do to fly from TC and have platinum?

We flew to the arctic last September, north from Winnipeg - did 900 miles with 5 stops in a SAAB 340! It wasn't too bad, but took all day http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Actually to be honest, I would love the GRR saab flights up north even though I would not use them much, a direct to the UP, even in a prop would be fine (CRJ would be better). the rumor i heard, but a reliable source would told me a couple months ahead about MCO and TPA was GRR's next direct may be LAS ....wooh hooo! sheesh Lansing has a direct with Allegient to Vegas.
Other flight i heard was PBI....they would make a killing on that. every flight in winter to PBI is packed. on web site they are routing people to CIN and IAH??? Just do a direct from GRR and a few flights from up north to here....its almost guaranteed cake! NWA already has almost 60% of GRR market. Also, President Doug Steenland is a Calvin College graduate :-) maybe he can put in a good word ;-) [This message has been edited by GRR_FlyGuy (edited Jan 13, 2004).] |
