Please keep out personal attacks.

As a KLM Plat, I am happy to see that maybe there won't be any bad changes to FD either. The AF deal is of more concern to KL FD anyway.

Congratulations NW flyers!

If I fly L, U or T class on DL and have the miles credited to my DL Skymiles account I only get x0.5 toward "medallion=elite" status. But if I take the same flight I will get full "elite" miles on NW. So if I find a cheaper fare on DL than on NW(for the same route), I will fly on DL and count the miles for NW. How does NW make money on this deal? They derive no revenue from my flying DL.

DL pays NW for the miles they award you and NW hopes that as a NW WorldPerks member, and particularly an elite WorldPerks member, you will be encouraged to fly NW more often in the future, giving them increased revenue in the long run.

There could be other motives as well... Skyteam, etc... that we don't know about yet.

I wish that NW would start offering International Upgrades like some of the other carriers offer...

I believe NWA-BOS asked this question but it went unanswered.

It says worldperks members now get 50% EQM's on CO operated flights, but if we book at Continental.com will we receive full EQM's like Onepass members?

My guess would be NO! I think NW is trying to discourage you from flying CO, so they are unlikely to give full credit for buying a CO ticket on CO.com - the same way CO will not give OnePass members 100% EQMs for buying a NW ticket on NWA.com .

I think there still is a slight loophole - but I may be wrong on this one. It still SEEMS that NW-operated CO-coded flights will count 100% EQMs for WorldPerks Elite, as those flights show up as NW flight #s in your account, not with the CO code-share flight numbers. To recap, for WorldPerks members:

NW-operated CO-coded (For example, CO9997 MSP-DTW) - 100% EQMs all fares

NW-operated NW-coded - 100% EQMS all fares

CO-operated NW-coded (For example, NW99956 IAH-EWR) - 50% EQMs cheap fares, 100% higher ones

CO-operated CO-coded - 50% EQMs cheap fares, 100% higher ones

This speculation is based on how flights USED TO credit to WorldPerks until now - coded depending on OPERATING carrier. This may all very well change. For now, EUA remains in effect for both NW and CO.

Just want to confirm, this is speculation, right?

This does seem to be the case for sure. And, on the other side of that, they are ENCOURAGING you to fly on Delta by giving you 100% EQM's even for the deepest discounted seats.

Anyone have speculation on this strategy? It certainly makes it crazy for someone who flies deeply discounted tickets to count thier miles in Delta's program instead of in WorldPerks.

My reading of this page on NWA.com is different:

Continental Airlines
On flights operated by Continental Airlines, the following paid fare classes will receive 50% Elite Qualifying Miles effective January 1, 2004:

Continental Q, I, S, W, T, X or L fares on flights operated by Continental
Northwest L, T, or K fares on flights operated by Continental
Delta L, U, or T fares on flights operated by Continental
50% Elite qualification bonus is earned for paid Y travel on Continental-operated flights. All other paid coach fares will continue to earn 100% Elite Qualifying Miles.

Class of Service Bonus earned on Continental-operated flights for travel in First Class or BusinessFirst Class continues to count toward Elite qualification.
Given that they state that any flights operated by Continental only receive 50% EQMs, and they then specify what fare classes these are across CO/DL/NW, NW clearly wants to discourage you from flying on CO metal at all.

I wrote a quick e-mail to Beth Shultis and Whom it May Concern.
If my travelling companion is for it, I am shifting 90-95% of travel to NW/KL/CO/DL..

This is one of the best pieces of news I've seen on FT all year. Finally something to cheer about after a seemingly never-ending series of take-backs and anti-customer moves by other carriers. Yay!
