Found the answer to my own question -- the gotchas here (for me, at least) are that the discount is only good for domestic (US) travel or travel to the Caribbean. Since I usually use miles for international trips, this won't do me much good.
More details here http://www.nwa.com/features/wpvawardtraveldiscount/ if anyone's interested. |

What exactly does "as little as 19,000 miles" really mean? Surely you don't get a trans-oceanic seat up front for 19k. What exactly is the discount? I assume it's a sliding scale (x miles off on this level of award, y miles off on this level award, etc.). No? |
If we're talking about the WP612 codes, my experience has been that this code is only good for domestic PerkSaver. I always give this code away to family, and make every effort to insure that there's two people on the PNR. (2) domestic coach tickets for 38,000 miles isn't that bad of a benefit.

i just tried to use my WP602 mileage discount offer. unfortunately, i get a message that it expired. anyone know the reference code for 2008?
thanks. |
This is the web address I use :http://worldperksvisa.com
BTW the discount is only good on NW operated flights (including compass, pinncale, and mesaba) It will not work if ANY leg contains a partner airline. The online system will let you select the flight and then give you error message 183....call the reservation center. Just tried to use it the other day, ended up using 50K for two tickets instead of 39K. So, I guess I have it to use later. New code is: WP615 |

thanks. I think they've got a bit of a gaping hole here. Anyway I've tried to call NW and USBank and they both are basically pointing at each other as to who can give me a new cert. NW just pointed me back to US Bank after 3 calls. On the 3rd try US Bank agreed to escalate to a supervisor but on a call back basis. I've also put in a TTU. Guess we'll have to see what comes back. |
I just got my 08 codes. But then again, I just paid my annual fee on my last statement.

I recently got the WP Signature Visa and received the 6k discount code and eCert number by email. I don't intend to use my miles for domestic/Carribean travel, so I wondered if the code/eCert is transferrable. The is no mention in the T&Cs that it is not transferrable, but could the eCert be linked to my NW account so only I can use it? sbagdon mentions above that he gives his family a WP612 code, but the code on my email is for WP615.

The WP615 code is very, very, VERY hard to use. I don't think you can give something away that involves so much work. It isn't much like giving a gift at all if you're giving the gift of a hassle. Almost better to let it go un-used. More about my adventures trying to use the coupon in the thread "error message 183."

I was wondering this too, I have a bunch of these codes for some reason, and I highly doubt I would use all of them.

http://flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=801846 Then again, I only use it once a year, so I might be off this year. And then again, I did redeem for a pair of PerkSaver tickets last month (straight redemption, no codes), so things must have really gone south in the last 30 days or so, if things went south. "when doing a search" -- ay there's the rub
If you had read the other thread, then it would become clear that lots and lots of wonderful things come up in search that don't actually exist. You cannot actually book them though. You get "error message 183" or any of another of several other error messages. You cannot redeem this coupon on Delta, so I'm unclear on the relevance of the SkyMiles redemption? WP615 is *only* for Northwest metal. A scant few PerkSaver awards may work with this coupon code -- but you'd better be a Gold or a Plat, and you'd better be willing to phone if you're getting all kind of oddities. Using the web site, I was getting search after search that routed me through IAH to go from MSY to Maine. Think about that for a minute. I'm doing a search for a coupon where I can only fly on NW metal and instead of routing me through DTW or MEM, even though NW has multiple daily flights from MSY through those hubs, they put me on a CO to HOUSTON which is 180 degrees in the wrong direction simply so that the coupon won't apply. All to save them 6,000 miles per person.
I would not give this coupon to someone else unless, as part of the gift, I was willing to search for the tickets for them. Otherwise, I'm not giving them anything at all, because most people just don't have the time to sort out "stuff" like this. WP615 as it exists is not creating goodwill, and while I'm willing to tolerate a lot of guff in search of a bargain, when I'm giving somebody a gift, I don't want to also be giving them a job.

I've had absolutely no issue using my WP??? code, and give family grief that it will be used for two people, and not just one (to maximize it's value). If anything, when doing a search using the code, I get more PerkSaver options, then when not.
