Preferred seating on Delta

Even as a lowly SE I'm supposed to have preferred seating on Delta, correct? How exactly does one go about achieving that? Should I be able to do it on their web site?

You have to call into Delta, have them enter your WP number to the reservation and tell that you want preferred seating. Delta normally reserves the first 2-3 rows of coach (excluding bulkheads) and the exit rows for elites.

And when you call DL, (hopefully they're not reading this - like they don't know it, but,) when you go through their phone menus, select "International" vs Domestic ticket and you're way LESS likely to get a phone agent in India!! The U.S. phone reps are MUCH more knowledgeable at elite "stuff" particularly on partner airlines.

This particular question is asked repeatedly on the board (for good reason mind you because Delta is terrible on this point). Perhaps we should get a sticky on the point? Anyway, here is my favorite thread on the matter. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showt...ighlight=delta Safe travels!^

Yes.

But can you? No.

Be prepared to insist upon being entitled to preferred seating even when they tell you no. It's really a hassle, even if you get the US call center. And worse yet, expect to lose your preferred seats every time DL loads a new schedule, which they do a lot. I had to call 3 times to keep my exit rows for a BOS-SLC-PDX a few months ago. Perhaps this doesn't always happen, but be aware of it, and keep checking your seat assignment.

Emailing them also works.

The other issue with Delta seats is they change a lot. If you get a seat to far out, it will be lsot. Any schedule change even a minute will reset all the seat assignments. Last night my entire flight needed new seats, since the plane was changed earlier that week. We ended up being about an hour late because of it.
