Redeeming on MAS
Hello everyone
I am pretty flexible about my dates of travel in Feb 2004. I am trying to get a C ticket on MAS from LAX-SIN. Should I call NWA or MAS to book this using miles? Thanks |
by the way
the NWA agent said no WBC availability and MAS flights were too early too book at this time? [This message has been edited by indo79 (edited 08-13-2003).] |
I don't think it's too early, I booked MSN --> MSP -> KUL (via TPE) --> MEL for 01/04 last month in first. I booked through Northwest directly, I would call either the elite line, or the world perks custom reservations desk, as they were exemplary in getting it done. There was no problem with the Pacific flights availability either. Ironically, I'm in Y from MSP to LAX, Int'l first over the water.

I only have 800-447-3757 as the number. Thanks |
I was transferred there from the elite line, sorry about that. I don't think this person was dedicated to elites though, she was just really good. If you get through to a human, you'll make it, they have fun booking the difficult itineraries. Be prepared for a long call though!

I booked ORD-MSP-LAX-KUL-BKK on MH by calling Northwest WorldPerks.
No problem getting the LAX-BKK segments on MH in F, but I'm in Y for the segments ORD-LAX. |
i called again and the 2nd agent said she cannot confirm anything on MAS at this time so she asked me to call back every week from now on.
Thanks for your help guys. |
I called for the 3rd time and got a really nice agent this time. Booked me from ORD-MSP-LAX-TPE-KUL in F(domestic) and C (intl)
Although I would have to buy the KUL-SIN ticket myself it's not a big deal. Thanks! |

Originally posted by thezipper: Keep checking with WP... coz they do open up sometimes. I was able to get an award ticket from KUL-SIN last Dec for a friend, and was only 15K miles... or you can buy it, they are cheap typically flights and run basically hourly. yup my dad could probably handle for me in SIN and just mail me the tickets to Chicago. Should not cost more than US$100 anyways. If i have a separate ticket from KUL-SIN must I go through Immigration in KLIA? and can I use the lounge in KL? |
You can use the lounge in KUL because it is also an arrivals lounge, so that shouldn't be a worry. I would definitely keep checking to get the last leg, it's kind of surprising that it wasn't available -- even in coach for a short hop.
MAS biz class is nice, but if you are looking for the legroom like in NW, it's not there, though the seats are more comfortable (minus leg room and recline) and the food & beverage are better. I booked first with MAS just to try it out, and because I'm taller. It's a shame they are going to upgrade their cabin later in the year, after I've already flown. I guess I'll have to go again! |
Yup the pitch is only 50 inches but I have confirmed 11A for all my LAX-TPE-KUL-TPE-LAX segments so it's not a problem at all. Can't beat upperdeck bulkhead window seat http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
Thanks for all your help. |
Sorry for the stupid question - but how many WP miles for a trans-pacific F award from NA to Asia (KUL)?
Edited: I found the answer -- Award chart is the same as NW metal: 60k coach, 90k biz, 120k first. [This message has been edited by doctajay (edited 08-13-2003).] |
bus class tkt for lax-kul-bom
what are the best/choicest seats in business class ? how is upper deck ? thanks for help in planning |
For those of you who have traveled the route - would you suggest flying the 747 LAX-KUL (via TPE) or the 777 from EWR-KUL (via Dubai) in F?
