It's a nice little airline, but - Business model out of whack with reality... - Too small a base market... - Too few flights... - Too close to ORD/MDW... It makes perfect sense for NW to get ahead of the 'pack' when MKE becomes IND 'North'. If/When YX dies I also would not be surprised to see WN and/or B6 jump on some gates at Mitchell field. </font> http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif I agree with your points; their connections from LAX to the east coast leave alot to be desired. They can't even connect me to Atlanta, period, except maybe on Saturdays or Sundays. It's a pity, they stayed out of NW's territory for so long, not flying to SEA when I lived there, and only flying to SFO on a seasonal basis. Is there not a precedent for the USDOT/USDOC/USDOJ to put some pressure on NW not to do this? A) The demise of YX will be very bad for the future of the 717 and the old MacDac plant at LGB. (Note that NW is using French-and-German built Airbus for all these flights) B) USDOT quashed NW when they tried to do similar(open a hub at RNO) to Reno Air after QQ started flying to MSP. |

Unless YX is a large buyer; I am not familiar with YX, I'm just asking... [This message has been edited by hnechets (edited 05-12-2003).] |
I think this is more of a move to hold back Airtran from further expansion in MKE than a true death chant for YX, it just may be YX is simply collateral damage.
Airtran was preparing to announce additional cities for this fall from MKE pending the BWI experiment this summer. I heard BOS & LGA as possibilities. NW has always a pretty fair marketshare in MKE, they are just trying to protect what they have. As for JetBlue or Southwest coming to MKE, don't hold your breath. Keep you money on a further Airtran presence in MKE. Craig MKE ------------------ My Las Vegas Page - http://www.viva-vegas.com |
What gates will NW use. Right now CO, airtran, NW, and funjet charters all use E concourse. funjet uses 1 gate, Airtran uses 1 gate, CO express use 2 gates, and NW uses 6 gates. There morning bank sure seems full. They have 4 of the 6 new flights leaving within an hour of each other, plus they have the 3 flights to there hubs at that time also. Currently, in the morning they have so many planes sitting there, they have one not even connected to a jet bridge.
Don't they need to add some gates? |
This is exciting news as MKE is an undeserved, overpriced airport.

Crazy...who would have expected this? (Except for IP http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif )
I hope NW is successful in this venture, but I really hope this doesn't put a nail in the YX coffin. |
