Another bump question.
My flight DCA-DTW (NW 331, 4:17 p.m. deprature) flight is oversold on Oct 30.
P1 F0 Y0 B0 M0 H0 Q0 V0 L0 T0 K0 I would normally take a bump if offered, but I am connecting to fight 68 to AMS, which connects to my onward flight to IST. I can take a bump only if I can make the connection to the AMS-IST flight according to my booked schedule at 9:10 a.m. Moreover, the GA agent wouldn't want to give bump to a pax whose itinerary requires a lot of work. The only way I can keep my IST connection is to get to AMS by about 8:00 a.m, which can be done if I take the IAD-AMS KL652. Ddoes that seem like an awful lot of work for the GA? If it does happen, can I still claim miles for my itinerary as booked? Any other suggestions will be greatly appreciated. My DCA-MSP flight tomorrow also seems to be sold out P1 F1 Y0 B0 M0 H0 Q0 V0 L0 T0 K0. I can take that bump, if the situation arises without affecting my schedule. |
First of all, if you've checked any bags, forget it.
Next, while I think she'd put you on the KL flight, since it'd also have NW flight numbers to use, she might prefer to do it with someone who will just take a later DCA-DTW flight and keep it simple. I originally had MSP-LAX-NRT in J/F, and MSP-LAX domestic portion was oversold. So I volunteered to go MSP-NRT nonstop (also in J). She had to get supervisor approval, but it was OK. They took me, gave me $300 voucher, meals, etc.... I waited at the airport 6 hours till the nonstop to NRT, and ended up catching my original NRT-BKK flight. Good luck! |

Thanks. I agree with everything you have said. I am not checking any bags. Re-booking onward connections is a lot of work. If IAD-AMS option becomes available, is suggesting WBC too much? I did accept a bump on SEA-AMS once with my son. We were rerouted SEA-MSP-AMS in F/WBC although my fare was a K fare. What about the miles? Can I get miles as booked in the original itinerary?
If they rebook you on KL652, they will rebook you in NW Y class (KL S class) which will earn you 150% EQM anyway. You won't want your original route miles unless you were also booked in Y or B class for IAD-DTW-AMS-IST. -RM |
That's a pretty tight reaccommodation proposal.
Say they get the flight out and reaccommodate you promptly at 4:17 p.m., and you have to get the shuttle or cab over to IAD, for a 6:55 p.m. int'l flight in rush hour traffic. You still have to check in, go through IAD security, and make it to the B terminal. I wouldn't risk it. |

With carry-on only and the BP from the DCA GA, he'd already be checked in, but that still leaves the traffic and security.
They can issue a connecting BP if it comes out with your BP from that airport, but not a BP from another airport. |

It's never too much to ask if they'll rebook you in WBC but don't be surprised if they say no. Depends on how "nice" the gate agent or red coat is who will be rebooking you. FWIW, KL652 is sold out in business for October 30 anyway!

Can they issue the BP for another station? I thought that was one big weakness in NWA's systems.
They can issue a connecting BP if it comes out with your BP from that airport, but not a BP from another airport. If that is the case, a quick detour to the WC to check-in online, print BPs (if they have a compatible printer) and call a cab would probably be quicker than waiting in line at IAD. |
Seriously. Rush hour traffic around DC is MURDER. Be careful.

What about another connection?
After a bump on NW, I've had luck getting them to rebook my itinerary partially on another carrier.
So, why not connect to the BOS-AMS or JFK/EWR-AMS flights by flying from DCA on US, DL, or CO? With the last two, particularly, you'd still get miles, and probably a bonus for being rebooked into Y. That way, you don't have to take the risk of not making it to IAD in time for your flight. |

That way, you don't have to take the risk of not making it to IAD in time for your flight. It all depends on how nice the GA is tomorrow. I't's easier for the GA to rebook some one on a later flight to DTW than rebooking me on another carrier to JFK/BOS and then on another NW/KL flight. Thanks for the JFK idea. I was toying with it but thought that being put on another carrier requires a GA who is relaxed, in a good mood, and of course, you have to be smiling and respectful. On the other hand, if I take a bump, it can help too people. It will free up an F/C seat for the next person in the battlefield, and give the next person on the standby list a seat. |
As mentioned in the first post, my DCA-MSP (NW 1707) on my way to LAX is also oversold. Just makes me nervous to take the bump today as I my IST itinerary begins in LAX with rhe redeye, once arrive in LAX tonight. Two bumps sounds exciting too.
