Having problems using NWA vouchers...

Mrs. CJ and I each have $300 vdb vouchers we received earlier in the year.

We would like to use these to on a vacation of some sort - we've been looking caribbean. However, NWA.com shows that NW flies to these destinations on code-shares (I'm assuming CO).

Problem is when we check fares, we get either "we don't fly here" or some routing on KLM through AMS that is $10,000+

Do I need to call, or won't NW tickets these routes even though they claim to fly there on code-shares?

thanks......

Looks like nwa.com has been experiencing major issues since they "upgraded" the booking engine ... one person posted recently that nwa.com says "we don't fly SIN-PDX" even though it's a direct flight.

Probably a valid point...it should be noted, however, that I've been checking these routes since before the "upgrad" with the same results....

People with more experience with vouchers please chime in, but I think nwa.com is restricting your use of vouchers to destinations served by NW or KL metal. Check T&Cs on the vouchers. You might need to call or look for a different set of destinations served by NW aircraft. Yes, going to the Caribbean via AMS would be trying (mileage runners only!).

ECV terms may be the issue

If you are entering the ECV number on the flight seach page the search engine may be coughing because of the T&C of the ECV. Namely the ECV can only be used for NW/KL flights. Just a guess ......

From NWA ECV Terms @ http://www.nwa.com/travel/viewecv/ecvtandc.html "...Travel is permitted on any NW/KL designated flights. This includes flights operated by NW Airlink and/or NW/KL Affiliate Partners. Other carriers must be ticketed separately at applicable fare, and this TCV has no applicability thereto..."

I'm not even entering the ecv number when inquiring, just doing a search.

Wouldn't the bolded part signify NW flight numbers operated on CO, DL, etc.?

PHL-SDQ searched 12/6-12/13 and received this message:

No Northwest Airlines, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, or codeshare partner flights were found that matched your request. Try modifying your search options including a change to your cabin class, dates of travel or city pairs. Check our service destinations and routes or search for alternatives on orbitz.com.
I know both DL and CO fly here, and NW lists this destination as one they service via a partner. Other caribbean destinations give me the same message.

The fact that CO and DL fly to SDQ doesn't mean that there's a flight with a NW number on it. That may be a limitation of online booking.

Or, I could just pay $222 for the US non-stop on an A330, and save my vouchers for something else.

I'm starting to regret spending that night in Memphis.......

On a good note, I was able to add Arkansas and Mississippi to the list of states I've been to, thanks to MEM's location and the rental car I over-paid for :D
