Flight availability
The following is the availability on http://publicbackup.com/shared/flyertalk/availability/
for the flights I am on. The first set gives the availability for each segment when checked as stand alone segments. BKK-NRT J9 C9 I0 Z0 Y3 B0 M0 H0 Q0 V0 L0 T0 K0 NRT-DTW J5 C6 I0 Z0 Y9 B5 M5 H3 Q3 V3 L3 T3 K0 The following is the availability for each segments when checked as a BKK-DTW flight BKK-NRT J4 C0 I0 Z0 Y3 B3 M0 H0 Q0 V0 L0 T0 K0 NRT-DTW J4 C0 I0 Z0 Y5 B3 M0 H0 Q0 V0 L0 T0 K0 Is the difference due to married segments? Which is a better reflection of availability. The date is Sept 20th. I haven't got KVS tool so I don't know what KVS tool says. It's too early to hope for a bump but who knows. |

One of our AMS-DTW flights, NW 53, was oversold by 23 in at about 7 the a.m. of the departure day. It left with no volunteers needed. |

After looking at this again I think your chances are very good. It is the BKK-NRT seg that is loaded and there is next to nothing for availability to NRT that day. Good luck! $750, a hotel for another night in BKK and Biz would be a nice score indeed! [KVS Availability Tool 2.9.1/Platinum - Apollo: ITN/US-ARL]

I'd say with the flight loads looking as they do, there's a chance of op-ups happening on the flights (especially on the 21st where it's J9 and Y0). And yes, you absolutely can bump yourself over and over again. Good luck and please report back to us and let us know how you make out with either an op-up or bump. -RM |

Checking each flight separately is the far more accurate means of seeing availability. The reason the flight availability changes when you search BKK->DTW (without the stop in NRT) is because one segment can't possibly have more seats available than the lowest number of seats of any segment of the itin. Therefore, if BKK-NRT has Y9 B9 but NRT-DTW only has Y3 B3 then the flight availability tool will show the lower of the numbers.

Is this uusual for BKK at his time of the year?
Wow, this seems like a good opportunity. Avialibility for the 20th seems to have improved slightly. If I can manage a bump on the 20th, then it seems I can manage one every day before finally taking a flight on the 26th. AM I correct? After 26th and 27th, it looks tight again until the end of month. What's going on in BKK? I haven't kept up with traffic in an out of BKK, as we have done mostly SIN during the last 3 years multiples times.

-RM BKK-NRT does seem heavily booked this month. However, I have never received an op-up or bump departing from BKK -- has anyone else? (from NRT to BKK is a different story.) Maybe its because I don't get to the BKK airport until 5am for the 6am flight, and so they've already bumped people or identified volunteers before I arrive? |

Although this may be generally true, looking at both segments is helpful. NWA may offer more seats for BKK-DTW than BKK-NRT because the connecting flight to DTW brings in more $. I look at both to get a better picture. However, when you look at them individually, you can usually identify which one of the flights is the limiting one.

The DCA-DTW and DTW-NRT (NW 11) had light loads. NW11 had about 100 unoccupied seats in coach, not sure about WBC. The NW 25 was full in WBC but had 75 open seats ion coach. Arrived in NRT about half an hour late, with just about 45 minutes to connect to NW 27. As I approached the gate for NW27, the GA called my name and handed me a WBC BP saying they were over sold and had therefor upgraded me. That was a nice suprise. I was the last one to board.
