wide chair,
I agree with what you're saying. I just wanted to express a point that NWA's Detroit DC10 hangar, and the 747 hangar under construction, were built merely to satisy consumer complaints (re: delays). NWA reluctantly agreed to build the hangars... the latter was part of a contract with Wayne County/the airport as t&c of the new terminal. Remember: NWA got a sweet deal on their fees... by the end of the decade, they'll be paying about half as much per passenger at DTW than they will be for MSP. Originally posted by the wide chair: I'm sure the fact that NW went from 4 daily international flights with DC10's in the mid nineties to 9 flights around 2000 had something to do with that hangar. Of course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong. The fact that they had 4 overnight DC10's in DTW (combination of DC10-30's and -40's) surely helped minimize customer complaints since these A/C could now be worked overnight in DTW. This made it easier to route them through DTW even if there was scheduled maintenance due. |

Originally posted by Sankaps: DC10-30s are NOT being retired any time soon. It is the DC10-40s that are being retired -- they will all be out of service next month. Checks on the -30s resume next month (September) full force in SIN. Trust me. If you want further details, please send me direct email. |
The DC10-30s are ALL already configured for int'l use. 60" pitch, etc. Not sure I understand your question. As for new seats, at the current time NWA has said they will be coming on the A330s. The rest we have to wait and see. As the A330s replace the DC10-30s, I don't see new seats ever coming to the DC10-30s.
Originally posted by thezipper: Sankaps, you are correct on this, but my question is if they are going to reconfigure the D10-30's for Int'l use, why don't they put the new WBC seats in them now vs. waiting till next year when the new A330's come on-line? Or is a reconfig that easy? Also, NWA lists having 23 D10-30's, will all be reconfigured for Int'l use? |

The DC10-40's and DC10-30's used to all have the same seats with foot rests, TV's and 60" pitch. It was last year that the DC10-40's were reconfigured to accomodate 42 passengers in FC and the foot rests and storage units were discarded.

Almost, but not quite... the -30s and -40s all used to have the exact same *old* configuration of 36 seats in WBC with 48" pitch. Then NWA enhanced WBC in the -30s to 26 seats with 60" pitch, while at the same time they reduced the pitch on the -40s (which were relegated to domestic flights only) to 40" and added an extra row to make it 42 seats (and also removed the legrests etc as you pointed out).
