NW "Direct" flight
Flew on Sunday on NW380 ORD-DTW-BOS.
Early in the morning I had an interesting phone conversation with a reservation agent about this being a direct flight about getting an upgrade for the 2nd segment (where seats where available) while there are no seats on the 1st segment. The agent said she cannot break my flight although it's a chage of plane flight. So much for breaking the flight - the segment ORD-DTW landed at gate A72 while the DTW-BOS departed from A1... NW should credit me with that extra mile of terminal tram! Also, I saw the passenger count on the flight - ORD-DTW 140, ORD-BOS 1(ME!). In other words - someone who wants to fly ORD-BOS and doesn't care much for NW/KLM miles would probably take UA or AA. Great marketing trick, NW! |
NW seems to do that quite often, I'm not quite sure why. A friend of mine had a "direct" NW flight from NW to ANC, but it was a two hour layover in MSP and a change of gate and aircraft.
According to http://webx25.nwa.com/cgi-bin/flifo2...&r_dst_apt=MCO flight 47 is a DC-10 from AMS, but it's a 757 from DTW. I wonder how many people on that flight have two seat assignments for the same flight number? -Robert |
All airlines use this marketing gimmick.
US48 LAX-CDG stops in PIT on its way. UA956 LAX-LHR is a 767 from LAX to JFK and a 777 from JFK to LHR. AA has three "direct" flights from DFW to LHR, all involving a change of aircraft enroute: AA90, AA92 and AA100. |
It seems to be bad to have a direct flight but there's one advantage. That's when your second leg is overbooked or cancelled, you will get the credit for the entire flight. If you are put on another airlines, you'll also earn miles for the remaining of your trip with the program of that airline.
