NWA.com = Non upgradeable fares?!

First, NWA.Com does not allow me to book more than on passenger at a time for a family trip to Vegas (ORF-LAS) for mid-May.

So, I then booked every passenger seperately and planned on upgrading several of us using miles. The Fare priced out at $275 ($15 more than a non-stop Southwest fare).

Luckily, I attempted the upgrade the next day. I was told that I booked a "promotional internet only Orbitz" fare, and that they were nonupgradeable...

This was strange since I did not enter any special promotional code to get the fares. Since it was within 24 hours, I was able to cancel the reservations and re-book with the WorlPerks agent for $280/passenger (a whole $5 difference). She then upgraded the seats. If I had waited another day, I would have had to pay a $100 change fee for each person to do the upgrade.

Has anyone else had the good fortune of purchasing promotional fares at nwa.com without entering a promotional code?

Also, since I rebooked via the phone, I lose any online booking bonuses. Should I email NWA and try to get the bonus miles anyways? I also used a WorldPerks Visa which is supposed to = 5 miles/$1 spent buying directly from NWA, but it specifically states:

Eligible Northwest Airlines charges include Northwest Airlines tickets and gift certificates purchased through Northwest Reservations at 1-800-225-2525, nwa.com and City and Airport Ticket offices

Since I bought from the WorldPerks 800#, will I lose that too?

A: I have never had a problem booking more than one person at a time on NWA.com.

B: Whether or not you enter a promotional code, a gold star will appear any time you are booking a promo fare.

C: Did you read the fare rules? Probably not, since they should have told you your fare was not upgradeable.

D: I doubt you will get the booking bonus even if you ask. You voluntarily waived the bonus when you re-booked by phone.

E: You bought the tickets from NW. You will most certainly get the Visa bonus.

Go try it now, ORF-LAS 5/9 return 5/13. Choose morning for both trips. Then, choose more than 1 (2 is fine) passengers and then seach by "best available fares". You'll get this:

Because of your passenger combination, we're having trouble booking this flight for you. Please try booking your passengers separately, or try another flight. If you have already tried this solution and continue to receive this error message please call us at 800-692-6955.

No gold star appeared

Nothing unusual about them, here they are:

- A fee of 100.00 USD will be charged for itinerary changes after the ticket is issued.Ticket is non-refundable.
- Refer to our Customers First policy when purchasing tickets.
- Refer to our policy when booking unaccompanied children up through age 17.
- Tickets are nontransferable.
- See an overview of all the rules and restrictions applicable for this fare.
- View the complete penalty rules for changes and cancellations associated with this fare.
-I have read and accept the rules and restrictions.

I didn't do it voluntarily, there is no way to book the $280 normal fare on nwa.com.

Good!

Does any of this change your opinion?
