I couldn't see a difference in price either. Do you think they haven't flipped the savings switch yet? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

From the fine print:
"Discounts apply on select fares to select destinations."

Also, I've just been listening to the webcast. The prices were released at 11:30 a.m. (I assume Central time) and were supposed to be in the system by this afternoon (no exact time specified).

Northwest offers new leisure, business fares

Northwest Airlines on Monday unveiled a fresh round of leisure and business fares aimed at luring passengers back aboard their planes and bolstering sagging revenues.

NWA said leisure travelers will get domestic fare cuts of up to 25 percent in addition to shorter advanced purchase times and a ``family and friends'' program that gives more discounts for passengers traveling together.

Other leisure fare programs include a seven-day stay discount and an advanced planner for bookings up to 30 days in advance.

For instance, the original everyday one-way fare from New York to San Diego cost $366, compared with $275 for the same route under the new offer.

The Minneapolis-based airline said the new structure also extends a more flexible range of business discounts.

Northwest said it expects the changes to increase annual revenues by 2 percent to 4 percent next year as the fares draw in more passenger traffic.

Not sure how real these "deals" are. A MSP-MIA fare for February is now $125 more than it was this morning...a fare that had held steady for months.

Must be a "SALE!

No, it's a page out of the CO handbook, called "Enhancements"

Ugh, I feel like I've been on a roller coaster.

I was booking Christmas travel on NWA.com under this new promotion, and I saw the fare go from $365 up to $411 while I was entering my personal information and picking seats.

I called NW over the phone. The agent only saw the $411 fare and not the $365. I go ahead and start giving my information over the phone. Meanwhile, the fare at NWA.com continues to go up -- to $577. I confirm that the $411 is locked in. Then, at my request, she looks up the fare to a city one hour away -- which is $352. We retry the original itinerary -- and we're back at $365.

Not bad, considering that the cheapest fare shown on NWA.com had been over $600 only this past weekend.

I got the discount fare that I wanted, but what a ride to get there.

well, let's see: MSP-SJC was $272 for mid-december w/a saturday stay last week. tonight it's still . . . . .

(wait for it)

. . . . . $272.

is this "new marketing" or something?

FWIW, it seems that it may possibly work out well for one who is able to not fly on a Sunday but with a Saturday night stay!

---

The airline cut prices on its Every Day Deals fares and reduced the minimum advance-purchase period to 14 days before travel from 21 days. Northwest also offered options to bolster the savings to as much as half, and expanded some business-fare discounts to include companies with travel contracts. Rivals had not matched the moves or were not available to comment.

The changes were in the works before the Sept. 11 hijackings, Northwest said.

True, I hit all the holes on this one. 30-day advance purchase, Saturday night stay, no travel on Sundays, return exactly seven days after departure, none of the typical "blackout" dates. (I should have noted that with an e-cert I have, I could have booked the travel for $318 + $145 on the codeshare segments. Over two tickets, I still saved almost $200.)
