Houston is listed twice. I doubt they offer service out of anything besides IAH.

I wonder which fare is legit.

Got some more info on the fares (esp. for you ITN people):
Booking class: C
Fare basis: CTURKEY
Booking class: V
Fare basis: VTURKEY
Bookable over Orbitz or NWA.com only. You can read the formal set of fare rules over Orbitz.

I feel like such a turkey for even thinking about this.

So, given the business class fare basis:
For $715, DTW-AMS:
07,840 credited flight miles
03,920 50% World Business Class bonus
10,000 World Business Class Promotion
07,840 double miles promotion
03,920 50% Silver Elite bonus
02,500 online booking bonus
-------------------------------------
36,020 miles plus gold status from the "Elevate Your Status" promotion.

Roughly 1.985 cents/mile!

Considering that I'm a graduate student trying to eat bread crumbs after studying, I could use WBC as an area of peace and quiet, and also don't have to cook.

I'm actually thinking of this, but I wonder if my parents may think I'm crazy since I'm planning to visit them in DTW. Usually during my breaks anyways I sleep, eat their food, and watch TV.

I'm actually thinking of doing a run in WBC. Am I crazy?

I hope these fares qualify for miles. NWA doesn't indicate that they don't, but who knows since they also don't explicitly say that they DO qualify. Also, I wonder if they are "K" class fares and don't qualify for the double miles promotion?

yeah, and I can't find anywhere what the danged fare code is despite the admonition to "review the rules and restrictions" of a given itinerary. it's not there.

but the prices are sure attractive. $385 MSP-AMS is something I won't see again for awhile.

Ithaca means Cornell for sure. I guess that's where the money comes from. :-)

(Don't get angry. I used to drink on College Ave. every Friday afternoon after class.)

Technically, yes, as I'm getting funded by them to be a grad student and be a TA.

Drinking Friday afternoon? Couldn't wait till the evening?

OK, Now that I have the WBC tickets to AMS, where should I stay? Prefer to use Marriott or Hilton (need to use up a few points).

The Marriott is nice if they aren't trying to maximum rates.

When I was in College, I waited tables.
When I was in Grad school, I washed dishes by hand at the fraterity house for room and board.

Now I am with you. When I travel, I have clean sheets and towels in a cleaned up room everyday. Many choices of different ethnic foods cooked to order.

I don't have that at home.

MIFlyer,

I would recommend staying at the Marriott downtown. This will be close to on of the main squares (Leidse Plein) and an excellent location to go for a beer. You may also want to take the tram, which I believe stops right in front of the hotel, and go down to Koning plein which also has a few nice pubs.

When you come back, let us all know your findings.

Great rate on expedia, $87 for a biz floor room with breakfast included at the Radisson - Airport location in AMS. My mom is on the fence about going, put a whole package together for her and this was the hotel that seemed the best ...we shall see if she takes the leap... God I've got my MOM doing a mileage run....

I already had tix sfo-zrh for 22-26 nov with an overnight in ams on the return.
I just got a successful priceline bid for the Amsterdam Marriott in the Museum Quarter next to Vondelparkfor $63 per night. Its not the downtown Marriott but it is the lowest price that I have ever paid after four visits for a hotel in ams.
