Mesaba cuts rates for Northwest 10 pct temporarily

Mesaba Holdings Inc., parent of regional air carrier Mesaba Aviation Inc., said on Wednesday it will charge its code-sharing partner, Northwest Airlines, 10 percent less for operating Mesaba flights from October through December to help cope with reduced travel after the Sept. 11 attacks.

Looks like Mesaba is getting the short end of the stick. In addition to the 10% reduction, they are picking up all Saab's from Express while Express becomes all CRJs. Express is owned by NWA and I wonder just how "voluntary" these Mesaba changes are. Love the RJ85s. Shame on the NWA pilots for preventing more of them for entering the fleet.

Why SHAME on the NWA pilots? A scope clause is exactly what is says. They gave up other concessions in order to get NWA management to agree to this point. If it was such a hot issue, management could have negotiated it out of the contract or watered it down like they did at Delta.
